WOOPS somebody must of hit the reset button. Rock the Isle and ring your Bell spring ride is still on for us freak bike builders. I checked the Bell Isle site bicycle riding is allowed and no mention about helmets. As far as the family event that is fine but you are responsible for your kids no baby sitting an no rides home. About the road bikes coming to the dark side that is cool to but they probably wont like are speed and I think Chainsaw said it best you got to go slow so you can let that cool rub off on those who watch. I still like the the date of April 26th the day before the Ann Arbor bike show but not set in stone. I would like this ride to take place in early spring. I think we should do the BBQ. it be a great end to the ride. So let me know via this thread if you are going to make it so we figure out how many hot dogs and hamburgers.

Yeah, we just got everything together today in one fatal swoop. So far, so good.
When you get a firm date, make sure to add that to the Calendar of Events for sure.

Good Morning All
I wanted to test this new forum and this is the only thread with any replies. Looks like the new posts will be on top; that will take some getting use to. Can we embed photos or only attach. Is there a spell checker?
Anyway, B&K good job with the upgrade :) and thanks for letting me test on this thread. -grant

New posts don't HAVE to be on top... it just defaults to that.
In the upper left corner of your screen, click on "User CP", User Control Panel. In there, under "Settings and Options" on the left bar, select "Edit Options". Under "Thread Display Options" (about halfway down the page), in Thread Display Mode, select "Linear- Oldest First". That will put you back to the 'old' way, with the first post appearing first and the newest last.
The benefit to having newest first is for long threads, so you don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, or to the last page of a multi-page thread, to read the newest post.
LOTS of configurable options in this new BB!

Wow, sounds like fun! Too far for me, but a good idea can be shared in different areas. I imagine there are plenty freak builders in Chi-town, just trying to find them is the issue.

The only suggestion for the ride has been Bell Isle and its starting to sound like a good spot for are first ride. I have 2 choppers and 2 swing bikes and a recumbent and will have people on all of them. Another friend told me he would be there on his semi tall bike. Now if i can get everyone who has emailed me to join in on the forum we can get something going.

Hey guys sorry it's taken so long to respond. We'd be happy to do a cruise with some Freaks! Haven't been to Bell Isle since I was a kid! Sounds like it could be a great ride. I'm trying to set up some of our "known dates" for cruises and events in the '08 season. We flop all over the state and occassionally roam into Canada. I would very much like to include any of your cruises on the FreakBike Nation (www.freakbikenation.com) board as well as the FreakBike Militia-Great Lakes (www.fbmGreatLakes.com) website. The Great Lakes site is temporarily down but should be open the first part of the week.
I'll pay better attention to this part of Atomic Zombie, but if you guys got any question don't hesitate to give me a yell:
chainsaw@freakbikenation.com
Here's a few "for sure" things coming up that some of us will be at:
Detroit Autorama/Petri and Sons Bike show, March 7,8,9,
http://petribikes.com/Detroit.pdf
Ann Arbor/ Saline Bike Show, April 27
http://www.ann-arbor-bicycleshow.com
Clawson, Mi., 4th of July Parade, July 4, We group at Cycle Works bike shop.
Hamilton Beach/Oakville, Ontario Canada July 18-20
Grand Blanc, Mi. Sept. 6th, "7 Year Itch plus One Scratch" ride
"Freeze Your drearyens Off" Winter Cruise in Holly, Mi. Dec.20
We are also possibly planning a Mackinaw Island ride in the early summer, but nothing is finalized.
I'll post more as I find out about them and you guys let me know of anything coming up!
Thanks,
Chainsaw

Well I have only heard from two people that emailed me from craigslist. so I assume that everyone is good with Bell Isle. Now we need to come up with a date and time. I am glad to see bgcustoms and chainsaw13 are are giving there input. We can not unite if we all do not take part in the forum and give are input. Lets show the world how big this ride will be by taking part in this forum.

Wheelenwilly, I know the biggest problem we run into is whether to have it on a Sat. or Sun. Some of our Freaks prefer one day over the other, but when they know enough in advance they can usually change their schedule. Saturdays are normally te best for most, especially the for the ones up North.
I think the Owosso Peddlers have a bike show/cruise on August 17th, and many of us attend . May or June might be some good dates. The weather should be nice enough and it won't be cutting into too many family vacations and what not. Bell Isle shouldn't be too cluttered with teenagers in these months either. We are open to other suggestions, but to get the most "Freak Bang" for our buck these two months would work great!
Once we pick a date, we need to do up a flyer that we can all print out and give to our local bike shops and anyone else who would display it proudly!
I hope you guys are able to attend some of the other rides that we attend, Always a GOOD TIME!
Thanks,
Chainsaw

I guess my brain is running a little slow, you said "spring ride". Last part of March, first weeks in April might be a cool time, for many of us. It would be real cool to do a ride on April 26th and then everyone could hang out at the Ann Arbor Bike show the next day. But some of us have a booth at the show, so we would need to scoot out Sat. early enough to go and get our junk for the show. We usually camp out at the fairgrounds on Sat. night so we can get into the exhibitor area early Sun.morning I would think that if the ride ended around 4:00 p.m. on Sat. we would have plenty of time.
I think that some of the Canucks are coming over for the weekend, so we might be able to go "International Cruise"!

April 26th sounds good if you do not think that the Ann Arbor bike show on the 27th will cause less people to show. Lets see if we get any more input on the date before we set it in stone. It would be cool to see everyone from the ride at the show. What about 10;00 am start I am thinking that a BBQ would be in order. But will have to see how many people will show and how to fund it. I also hope this ride will give a big boost to rest of the rides that chainsaw has organized. I think chainsaw also named this ride with out knowing it LETS ROCK THE ISLE AND RING YOUR BELL SPRING RIDE. Thanks to bgcustoms for the location ideal. There has not been a lot of input I just hope the people sitting on the side lines show and make this a huge ride.

Before we go too far, I just wanna say thanks to Wheelin for starting up this ride and to BGCustoms for thinking pff a cool place to ride!
10:00 a.m. ride sounds like a good time. and a BBQ sounds like a great idea. I too would like some more suggestions on dates.
Couple of questions ....
Will this be a family cruise? If so we need to make sure that parents are responsible for their own children and that they (adults and children) know the basics of bike safety.
Is this open to any style of bikes or just FreakBikes. If it's open to all bikes, we may get a larger group of riders. Plus it's fun to bring the "roadies" over to the dark side!
Does Bell Isle have any reqirements for biking? Things like mandatory helmets for everyone, lights, horns? If they do, we should make sure that everyone is aware of the rules.
Got a link to this thread posted on:
www.freakbikenation.com
www.ratrodbikes.com
www.chopperbicycle.net
Hopefully we can get some input and set a "for sure" date. As soon as we do then we can get it posted and get some flyers distributed! I know a few bike shops that will put out flyers in their shops and let their customers know about the ride. I'm really looking forward to meeting up with some new Freaks!

BG, it's been a couple of years since I was at FreedomHill. I went to a car show there, do they still have the car show/swap meet? They use to have a bicycle show at the same time. That could be cool to do also.
I think the Harley fest is right around the same time as Boomerama in Davisburg. If so, some of my group will be attending Boomers show. I'll check the date of Boomers and let you guys know.

We usualy throw a little party have all kinds of crap set up. My bikes are always there but thier just mine I've seen those.

Paper plates, napkins, "plastic eating with" things
We've got some stuff to use for prizes .....
a couple of FreakBike shirts, stickers, and other things. We could raffle some of them off and use some for a contest or two.
Got a couple of big beverage dispensers. We'll throw koolade in one and lemonade in the other.
After Autorama, I'll snoop into our treasures and see what else we can do.

B.G. let use know when and where you plan on doing something and we'll do our best to help out and show up! There are quite a few people over in that area, so getting a good cruise together should be worth the effort! A bike show sounds cool also.
Do the Bearing Burners have a website? Maybe we could find out from them about the bike show at FreedonHill. I don't think they run it, but they should know who does.

I will see what I can do, If they dont do it I'll see what it takes to do it. I may be wrong , but I think Al Petri may have run it in the past. I know he used to do the one at Gibraltar car show. Aswell the bearing burners run saturday shows once a month in downtown Mount Clemens. I'll seee what I can do there as well. I am in the custom automotive buisiness, so I see a few of those guys at the shop. On a different note I'm not going to be able to get mine into autorama this year, just dont have the money. Kid keeps saying he's hungry every single day:eek:

I'll probably be talking to Don from Petris, tomorrow or Wed. so I'll pry some info outta him. I know there were alot of the bikes at the last shows that were also at Autorama and also Ann Arbor. Don may even see post this and answer it for us.
Darn kids these days, always thinking about themselves!:p
When I was three , I used to walk twelve miles in my bare feet thru 14" of snow in the middle of the hottest day in august, so I could work at the village blacksmiths shop, where I used to shoe water buffalo for a penny a hoof! What sucked was that many of the water buffalo in our area were inbred and only had 3 legs! I lost a penny on every one of them
beasts! After working 25 hours a day, I'd have to do the hike all the way home only to find that pa had moved the mobile home on me!

Bell Isle ride: I'm gonna compile a list of friends, relatives and bike people that I know and send them an email flyer. Just waiting for a "for sure" date. How many date options do we have? Should we list the possible dates and then set up a poll? I've talked to a few people and they really like the Bell Isle idea, so I think we'll get a few friends, who only occassionally ride, showing up along with most of our regulars! This could turn into a rather large group of Freaks if we get the info out there!
Anyone wanna design a flyer that we can use for emailings or print out? What do we want on it? Let's get cracking, it seems like a ways away, but it will hit us between the eyes before we know it!

I am back been out buying occ bikes for future projects and you can get them off of craigslist pretty cheap. I think keeping the ride the day before the Ann Arbor bike show is a great way to kick off the summer freak bike riding. I will still wait till the end of the month before we set in stone like I said because a man is only good as his word. Chainsaw it would be cool if you had some Great Lakes Militia swag to sell to help fund future BBQ freak bike rides and I am sure there would be lot of the people would be intrested. I will fund the BBQ and put out a donation bucket. If it goes good maybe we can make this a yearly thing. It would be cool to have shirts made for the ride with all the talented freak bike builders we could come up with some pretty cool shirts. Let me know if my battle ship mouth is overloading my row boat ass sometimes that happens.

BG, Might put a few of them thar mo-cycle guys to shame! When is the Gibraltor show? I'll try to get down and check things out.
Willy, I've got a couple of things that you can raffle off to help with the cost. I'll send you some pics of the stuff later this week. Also got some paper plates, napkins, cups and eating tools we can donate. We'll also donate a big cooler of lemonade and one of Koolade.
As far as shirts go, if you guys wanna get together a couple of designs (or we could use the flyer design when it's ready), then we could vote on it and I can get my screenprinter to do them up. Just remember, the more colors the higher the price. Also the more we order, the better the pricing. Or if someone else wants to head this up, they can run with it! The best way to do it is to get the design and shirt color figured out and take orders on them from the board members. This helps to keep the "out of pocket expense" down to a minimum. No matter how many you presell, remember that there's gonna be a bunch who want shirts at the cruise. We get people just walking up to us and asking if we have shirts to sell, so plan on a few "I just wanna shirt" people while we're riding.
If I am involved in doing the shirts, than I use my screenprinter guy, so please don't ask me to use somebody else. What we do with the profits from the FBM-GL swag is put it into a fund that we use for running the FreakBike Miltia - Great Lakes site, stickers, trophies and /or anything else that we think might help promote the FBM-GL. Some of it also goes towards our expenses for promoting the Great Lakes FreakBike Militia (gas for running all the errands, phones calls and other piddly stuff that adds up). After all this, what we have left over from the profits is used for the swag to raffle off or give as prizes. It's not alot but a few things to give out at each event. Because we are a sister chapter of the FreakBike Militia - Golden Horshoe chapter, we also donate a few things to their cruises, as they do ours.
Usually the person(s) hosting the event is responsible for the promoting (flyers, advetisements, whatever). If you're gonna have any food at an event, then it's usually up to the promoter to figure out how to get the food. You could buy it yourself and ask for donations or you might be able to get one of the local businesses to help out with the food. You could also ask for everyone to bring a passing dish, but that usually doesn't wok too well.
I don't have any problems printing out flyers to stick in the bike shops in my area and on the community bulletin boards around us. We will also email all of our friends and relatives about the rides. I also try to make sure any of the events are posted on FreakBike Nation, RatRod Bikes, ChopperBicycle, and of course we'll load this board with info. We also have business cards to hand out for the FreakBike Nation site/forum. We're running low right now but we should have our new ones by Autorama.
Hope this all makes sense, if not ask all the questions you want!
Something that might not be clear .... If you wanna do the shirts yourself, then you can use the profits however you see fit. I can also give you my screenprinters email and other info if you're interested. If you wanna put the FBM-GL website or the FreakBike Nation website on the shirts, then go ahead.

The shirts for this ride do not have to be this year unless you want to do that I have no problem with the profits going to FBM-GL. The be food will taken care of by me and I will ask for donations to off set the cost. I thought selling the FBM-GL swag would be a good fund raiser for the FBM-GL and future events and I am sure alot of us would like a FBM-GL shirt. If you want have them done up or take orders I will leave it up to you if you do not have a problem with it.

I'll get the shirts done if you'd like. I think BG had talked about doing up a flyer, so I'll wait and see what he comes up with. Maybe we can use all or part of the flyer for a shirt.
In the past, when we get shirts made up for an event, we donate a few shirts to the event for raffling off or prizes. So there will be a few shirts for you to do what you want with.
I'm also trying to get a few sponsors to help with the various rides and possibly some bike shop discounts to us Freaks. I'll keep you guys posted as things happen!

Hi guys, I'm new here but know some of you from other forums. I have been getting my updates for this ride on Freakbike Nation but with Chainy in the hospital, I needed to know where we stand. Right now it looks like there will be three ridders from the west side of the state. We will have to leave here around 5:30am. Is there an itenerary, do I need to bring a pixie bike, anything special.... See ya'll there...Kelly

I planned this ride just to be a ride and BBQ. There was no plans made for pixie races or jousting but that does not mean that it is out of the question so if you have them and want to bring them then just do it. This is the first ride of Rock the Isle Ring your Belle Spring Ride and hopefully many more to come so I would like to see the turn out and next years ride I will plan alot more events for the ride so I planned this just to be a ride to allow the kool to rub off on all the bystanders and to get all Freak Bike Builders together and Rock the Isle. I will be BBQing hot dogs and hamburgers and chips if there is something you want to bring or BBQ for your self there will be plenty of hot coals. Now that chainsaw is in the hospital we will not have the shirts made up for the ride but maybe after the ride and they will be listed on all of the sites. I will list some directions to get there and some links to Map Quest to help you find your way today or tomorrow The ride starts at 10:00 am till 3:00 pm I will put up signs on the Isle so you can find where the set up is. Hope to see you there.

Ok here is the best I can do for a map but it is a pretty good one. You should be able to find your way from any where in the U.S. and Canada. Hope to see you there. I also would like to thank bg customs for the location ideal and chainsaw for the date and name. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Belle+Isle,+Detroit,+MI.&ie=UTF8&z=15&iwloc=addr

I am stoked we only have one more week to go then we get on are bikes and ride. There will be so much kool on the Isle that the average man will not be able to control him self. Hope to see everybody in one week. Do not forget about the Ann Arbor Bike Show on the 27th.

I am stoked about tomarrows ride. Just finished loading the trailer and will be pulling out of here around 5am. I'm noe exactly sure where we're all meeting but I figure that a bunch of kustom bikes on a small island in the middle of the Detroit River aren't going to be hard to find. See y'all in the morning, hope the weather is good for us...Kelly

I had a great time on this ride. We didn't get rained on but we did have to ride in some serious winds, half of the island sucked and the other half we barely had to pedal. Met some really cool people, ate some good grub, threw a pixie frame like a girl and had an awsome ride. Heres my pics...Kelly

Chainsaw was unable to make this ride, as he wasn't feeling well.
But he did make it to the Ann arbor/ Saline bike show.
