i found 3 free mtn bikes out for the trash the other day, and in stripping them for parts i discovered i had the ultimate Bottom Bracket.

a few of brads creations call for a BB (with post for derailer) that plates are welded to in order to have a adjustable crank position. this full- suspension bike i found has one that i wish i would have had when i built my streetfighter.

its got a short post on it thats already capped off, and even has a cable stop. perfect!

i just wish the handlebars werent impossibly rusted in place, so i could scavenge that uber-cool triple tree fork. :)

I've never seen those particular triples but are you sure they are rusted in place?
flood with wd40 and leave for a few days that may do the trick.
Also how are the tubes held?
pinch bolts on the bottom trees?
some form of retainer on the tops?
If you can remove the tubes the rest should be easy.
Remove the bars from the extension clamp, then using that as the lever point hammer back and forth to break the corrosion adhesion.
Its probably a mix of rust and ally corrosion
Make sure youve unscrewed the stem bolt and hammer that down before trying to move the stem back and forth.
If you have access to a torch heat the area up and then try.
Good luck, I would try everything to get those suckers off.

thanks.

i rememberd i have a propane bottle torch, and with some generous use of that, i was able to get the handlebars loose. thats really all that was keeping me. though ive seen my dad use a torch a million times to un-stick something, i didnt realize it would make things that easy. the little wedge thing is still stuck in there, but it'll come out with some persuasion.

so i got the whole thing apart, just trying to decide now if i want to use this snazzy ready-made triple or make my own springer for my chopper. hopefully laziness wont win out, i would love to have a springer front end.

The wedge will come out with plenty of wd 40, a rod, and a hammer. Depending on whether you push it out the top or bottom, if you could wire brush or steel wool the inside of the tube along the path, the flush it with anything, even water, it will come out much easier.
BB's from suspension bikes are my favorite. Just like you said, perfect length, already capped, and cable stop installed.
