"Speed Building".....I love it...!!
Perhaps a future 24-hour contest may be in the works.

I may have to pull an 'all nighter' and see what kind of monster rolls out of the shop.

Good job, Buddy...!! ;)

Talk about building at warp speed!

Maybe I should try a "marathon build", myself. I'll bet if I put my mind to it, I could do more work in a week than most people do all day... :p

"Seems like it needs something, maybe a tank??"

True, but this is really a personal experiment, I find cheap bikes all the time, if I can recycle them into something different yet useful, and make a few bucks for my time and effort at the same time, I can buy better tools, build a real jig stuff like that. We'll see, the hobbie itself is very gratifying, but the way gas prices are rising bicycles are only going to get more popular :~)

The only thing that holds me back from selling my creations is the BIG "L"....Liability. I'd hate to lose my house in a lawsuit from someone who was injured by a broken weld or a sharp edge. In today's litigious society, I just can't take the chance.

Make sure the buyer is an adult and signs an iron-clad release form before taking it away.

Best of luck........Richie >>

Why even go that far? Simply state in the ad, "Sold as-is, no warranties, guarantees, or liabilities expressed or implied." Their signature on the bill of sale is tacit agreement with the terms, which is that they hold you completely free of any anything.
I sold my Jeep and a motorcycle via Craigslist that way, and never had a problem. In essence, it's saying, "I wash my hands of this." ;)

Be sure to check your local laws regarding modifed bikes. Here's what we're up against in Massachusetts.....

=============================
"Riding A Chopper is Illegal"
Chapter 85, Section 11B of the Massachusetts Law states:
"No bicycle shall be operated upon a way with handlebars so raised that the operator's hands are above his shoulders while gripping them. Any alteration to extend the fork of a bicycle from the original design and construction of the bicycle manufacturer is prohibited."
The operator can be fined up to $20.

There are ways around that, perhaps? Tell the cop the fork is from a Boneshaker, and it was definitely intended to be that long. ;)

I think the key words in the law are...

"..the original design and construction of the bicycle manufacturer.."

Since I'm the 'manufacturer' and my bikes were built from the ground up by me, I think I'm exempt. But, I'll carry a copy of the law with me just in case....

That's correct. You are the manufacturer, particularly if you build your own forks. If you use a premanufactued fork, the manufacturer may possibly be dragged into a lawsuit. That manufacturer could argue that you as a builder, used their parts in a design they were not intended for.

It's a cool "half-breed". Part attitude, part speedbike.

I am glad to see the law makers have nothing better to do than mess with people who build bikes and ride them. I guess its a lot easier then dealing with the real issues. Big Brother knows what is best for you because we are not smart enough to figure it out. Welcome to the home of the free yeah right. Better stop now before my battle ship mouth over loads my row boat ass.

It seems to me that the lawmakers in Mass. took into account the right to build your own bike. The law as quoted states you can't legally alter the fork on a premanufactured bike, which protects the original manufacturer. It doesn't say you can't use an extended fork on any bike. The only other restriction is the heifht of the handlebars in relation to shoulder height, which is a responsible restriction for the safety of not only the rider, but the safety of anyone in the vicinity of the rider.
As for Big Brother, haven't you noticed that Big Brother includes We The People? With the popularity of mini video cameras and cameras in cell phones, we could (and have done so) record the actions of anyone, including the actions of cops who shouldn't be cops. Just watch the news. I find it comforting that the playing field has been leveled to some extent, so we could expose corruption.

Well I appreciate the imput, the handlebars above the shoulders thing makes sense to me, I wouldn't do it as it would be horrible to handle, and the lawmakers I'm sure were just trying to protect children from getting hurt. I've seen a few 20' bikes around here with those superhigh apehangers http://cgi.ebay.com/Ape-Hanger-Cruiser-Lowrider-Handlebars-Dyno-High-Rise_W0QQitemZ300202207277QQihZ020QQcategoryZ10695 0QQcmdZViewItem
that are just as bad, I wonder if they are legal here.

Well my "half-breed" didn't get any bites at $200, so I've added a bar, paint, and a better seat. If I don't get any interest this week I guess I could do some white graphics on it, but I'll probably give up on this experiment, as to go much further would not be worth it.

Looks good, Jack. The paint job made it! Sadly, most people don't appreciate the amount of work that goes into a home-built, especially if the finished product is of any quality at all. Besides, most of 'em want something for nothing.

Occassionally, you'll get lucky, & find that rare person that finds joy in owning a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art like that, so don't give up too quickly, cuz they ARE out there!
