The Richmiester never ceases to amaze! Once again, an outstanding mod, Richie! Love the way that front end pivots for uneven terrain. Very insightful! Good, high-res pics, too!

And of course, as usual, excellent quality work. BTW, where did you find square tubing to fit inside the 1.5" stuff? I tried to get some here from my steel supplier, & they said they couldn't get it.

1.375", right?

It's going to be a great ride when its done. Do you plan to add a body?

BradI've never worked with fiberglas, but it's another technique I'd like to try. Perhaps I'll start off easy with a simple fairing first. If that goes well, then I'll consider a full body.

Is there a good "Do it Yourself" fiberglas reference book out there anywhere?

Stay tuned....

BTW, where did you find square tubing to fit inside the 1.5" stuff?Like a lot of the stuff around here, it's home made. I had some very heavy angle iron which was originally a highway sign post which didn't survive a battle with a snow plow last year. I trimmed it to fit within the DW frame and welded it together to form the 'tongue'. See the pix...

I used some old bed frame. One piece will fit tightly in the 1 1/2" tube, the other has to be timmed about 1/16" off both sides. I cut it on an angle when joining two pieces on an angle, such as a seat post, or in the case of the Streetfighter, I'll use it where the main frame straightens to level off the BB. I leave a space about 1/16" wide between the frame pieces, so the weld will hold the frame pieces to the bed frame reinforcement and to each other. I then extend the bead 1/8 - 3/16" on both sides of the seam, so there's plenty to feather out when sanding, and the seam becomes invisible after painting.
I also drilled a few holes in the bottom of the tadpole main frame under the seat, slid a piece of the bed frame in, and welded where the holes were to hold it in place. It makes a neat and clean reinforcement for the main frame. I didn't want the same problem I had with the Meridian when the frame bent, and I wanted an easier method than the gusset on the DW plans.
Lots of people throw away bed frames, and they provide an excellent source for building heavy duty shelves, welding carts, etc., as well as steering arms and disc brake caliper mounts.

'Quad Mod' Update ....

The Weather Man cooperated and I was finally able to get a finish coat of paint on the "Quad Mod" for the DeltaWolf.

The pivoting "Rock 'n' Roll" front end works perfectly and should absorb some of the ruts, potholes and frost heaves left behind by Mister Jack Frost.

Perhaps now that Spring is here and the snow has melted, I'll be able to put some miles on it.

That's a great mod, Richie! Really looks good, no surprise. So, do u like it better as a quad, or a trike? Give us some pros & cons, both ways.

SirJoey asked....

"So, now that you've had your "quad mod" done for awhile, how do you like it? Was it worth the work? Any real advantage, other than looks?"

The short answer is "I love it...!!"

Not only do I have the option of riding a trike or a quad, but the fact that it comes apart makes it so much easier to transport in the back of my van. I can carry the trike/quad plus another trike for my 'bride' so we can ride the bike trails together. Prior to this, there was only room for one machine.

Plus, the "WOW Factor" response from onlookers says it all.

I'll rustle up some pix of it in its 'Transport' configuration....

BTW, Rich. How's your wife's knee? And with her new trike, do you encourage her to make your beer runs to get exercise for it?

Richie Rich

BTW, Rich. How's your wife's knee? She's had an amazing and uneventful recovery. In fact, she healed much faster than the doctor had predicted and that's always good. Thanks for asking.

And with her new trike, do you encourage her to make your beer runs to get exercise for it?Well, now that I can no longer outrun her, I have to be very careful as to what I ask for...!!!

I hope the DW is faster than her trike or her legs.

Richie Rich

I built hers as a single speed while mine has 21 speeds.
I was born at night, but it wasn't last night...!!

I'll rustle up some pix of it in its 'Transport' configuration....As promised, here are a couple of pix of the DeltaWolf trike/QUAD ready for transport.

The first picture shows the parts broken down and ready for packing.
The other shows the 'Locked & Loaded' configuration.

The steering rods utilize quick-disconnect rod ends for easy assembly.

By shifting the frame to one side, I can fit a second trike next to it.
The vehicle is a short-wheelbase Chrysler mini-van with the third seat removed and the middle seat folded down.

That is one seriously kool mod, Richie! Is that the "foot-end" of a crutch you're using for a stand?

That is one seriously kool mod, Richie! Is that the "foot-end" of a crutch you're using for a stand?Good eyes, Joey...!! That's a short piece of square tubing which fits over the 'tongue' to support the front end. Welded vertically to it is a piece of round tubing with a crutch tip on the end. It also acts as a 'handle' for easy loading and unloading from the van.

Richie,
Great video...Any way you could share more details about the construction of the "Rock and Roll" front end? I have checked it out before on your web site, but I would like to see more on how it is pivoting and how you constructed the pivoting section.

Thanks for sharing, SSG

Richie, you've really outdone yourself this time. That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!
Not just the mods themselves, but the production of the video as well! Just brilliant!

Leave it to you to always be flyin' ahead of the plane!
Man, I'm gonna have to make a journey up there next Summer,
so we can hang out, & I can learn some stuff! :D

BTW, where'd you get those nifty detachable ball joints?

I have to agree on that video (not to mention the bike, which I have praised before). Great video production. I hadn't seen it on YouTube before. Those are some great removable ball joints too.

Nice video - I guess you were made for film as well, not just the airwaves!

We are hoping to do something like that as well this year, if time permits - I even painted a 24 foot wall chroma key green a few years back!

Cheers!

Richie I was just looking back through your latest pics and I do have a question now :D. Where did you come up with the monster head tubes or are they actually BB with 3 piece cranksets without the cranks or sprockets :D.

RickIt might just be an optical illusion from my cheap digi camera.
Those are standard 'Road Kill' mountain bike headtube assemblies that I cut in half.
It's more work, but I like the low profile look...

RR, do you find those bolts work OK? I know Brad stresses the 20mm bolts and hubs. What size are yours?I ride strictly for pleasure on nicely paved bike trails. My bikes don't get the abuse that a commuter bike might receive, so standard 1/2-inch bolts and flanged bearings from the hardware store hold up well for me.

But if you're planning on some road riding, you'd want to beef things up a bit to handle potholes, ruts, high-speed or long-range travel etc.
