Howdy Folks;
Just downloaded the DeltaRunner plans. What a great trike! Going to put a Wilderness Energy BD36 on the front. Since this is going to have a hub motor in the front, can I just build the fork acording to plans or should I build a triple tree with some real heavy duty dropouts? I've built a couple of these torque arm/axle retainers for other ebikes & perhaps a couple of these on a stock fork would do. Sure would be much easier than building a custom triple tree. Also, should the main boom be heavier than the one in the plans? Finally, will this 5/8 4130 from Aircraft Spruce work for the axle? Two of us have bought plans & are getting ready for a winter project. I wasn't sure where to post this so I put it here the new Ebikes forum.

Thanks!

Are you planning on the front suspension or just a rigid fork? It is usually not recommended to add a hubmotor to a suspension fork, epsecially one made from aluminum. If this is a rigid fork design, just make sure the dropouts are in good shape - you will not need the 3tree.

Looking at the photo of the steel rod, it is hard to tell if a bearing will slide over it. Whenever I have sourced the axle material, it has been free of mill scale and any other coating. I would ask them if a bearing will slide on.

Howdy Brad;
I found a ridgid steel heavy duty fork at the local bike shop for a great price. Probably some of the only new stuff I'll use on the DeltaRunner. Been collecting bike frames from garadge sales all summer long. Got an old Raleigh Record in almost perfect shape for 10$ A great three piece crank on it. Seems I remember you or somebody recomending a heavier wall main boom for a DW with a hub motor. I can pick up the square tubing localy, just want to make sure I get the right stuff. I'll call Aircraft Spruce for some more info on the axle. They've got a good price on the washers for the hubs. Thanks again for the help.

Dave, you can always order an oversize piece and turn it to size, or failing that, see if the machine shop already has the right size bar in their scrap pile. I've scored some good deals buying from the scrap pile instead of ordering new. I landed 2 pieces of 1/4" 2x6 for a project instead of having to buy a length.
