My garage is an absolute MESS. Just look at the welder gallery for a glimpse of ground zero.

Part of the problem is that to the right of that image is a big massive side by side fridge that is dead. I'm working on getting rid of that. But by and far the biggest problem is that I need a bike rack for just my WORKING bikes. I'm working on a solution to that too, using some scrap steel that got left out by my office (a damaged pallate rack or something). But what to do with all my extra wheels? What about the frames that are only partial? They won't fit anywhere! What do you guys do? I really need to organize! Thanks a lot!

I hang wheels on hooks. As for the rest of the bike, I cut off and keep only the parts that will be used. The rest of the bike goes in the trash. Small parts, like BB's, brake levers, shifters, and head sets go in buckets. Forks and rear triangles get stacked in the rear of the garage. I hang chains and handlebars on nails, and cranksets go in a big plasic box. A side by side fridge would make an excellent storage box for all kinds of stuff, like short lengths of tubing, tools, lights, etc.

I have my parts in 'milk' crates (some actually are milk crates, some are "craft crates"), and when the parts are small, the crates have cardboard boxes in them. I keep these on shelves and under the workbench. Full frames and wheels get hung on the wall or tucked in the rafters. Working bikes get hung on the wall, and 'rollers' (works in progress) take the floor space.

I use as much overhead space as I can.
Here's a shot of my bike shed...

Not shown on the opposite walls are shelves with boxes containing sorted parts such as pedals, handlebars, small frame pieces, chains, spokes etc.
The more you can get off of the floor, the more 'build space' you'll have.

If you've got a storage problem you ain't building/bashing enough.
P.S. - I like the idea of lots of pails - a lot of the stuff won't fit smaller containers.
MOE - Three wheels and a rusty chain

Thanks guys for all the pictures and suggestions. I think I see light at the end of the tunnel on my garage.... hopefully its not a fully loaded mile long freight train...

One large random pile outside is holding the tarp on my kyoto cruiser, another large random pile in the back room of my garage serves as a stepladder to access the wheels attached to the rafters with baling wire.
