I am building a trike similar to the Delta.Trying to set up an intermediate jackshaft to not have really long chain setups. Bought 2 Sun trike type 24 tooth sprockets and one fits the 1/8 and 3/32 bicycle chain and the other one does not. setting these sprockets back to back they seem identical...Same depth of tooth, same width of tooth and they seem the same all around. But to set them on the chains,it seems as if Im dealing with two different chain sizes. I am mixing a fixed 24 tooth sprocket to multi gears on the back wheel. I just cannot see where I am going wrong . Could someone enlighten me here. I have got to be missing something basic.

Thank you
Marty

There are a few different sizes of speed chain. The real thin chain will not drop all the way onto the teeth on some thicker chain rings.

Chain made for 7-9 speeds is thinner than the other chain.

I think I have figured it out. The thickness of the teeth on one of the sprockets was the cause of the chain not sitting correctly. Used a grinder to take a few thousandths off the side of the sprocket and now the chain sits fine. Thank goodness for a caliper to measure with.
