Guys, I am getting really tired of looking for wheels and hubs.
I've talked to several sources and NOBODY has a hub that is 3 1/2" wide.
The closest I found was maybe 3" at best, but in a 24" wheel and $60.
I saw someone bought a 26" Pedicab wheel, but I haven't been able to find the specs on the wheel at Pedicab.com.
I ran an ad for old mountain bikes, no responses.
I did find some bmx bikes on craigslist.
So, any problem solvers out there?
Thanks,
BTW I spent hours combing through the old board and getting info. What a job.

Just posted a bunch of posts I thought would be helpful.
Now my REQUEST for information is buried way down the list.
By replying, I'm trying to get this back up to the top.
Help. Thanks.

Guys, I am getting really tired of looking for wheels and hubs.Is there a reason why you don't want to make your own as shown in the plans??

One reason is that I am not finding used bikes to get wheels from.
Another is that I would like to have removable wheels.
Another is that the fellow I am working on this project with has more grandios ideas about DW's.
It looks like to save money, you spend time. With his ideas it is better for him to spend the money and save the time.
Still Looking....

I seriously doubt you will find a 3.5 inch wide hub that won't cost you 10x the price of making your own. If you really want to use standard hubs, use the 3 inch standard BMX type 48 hole hub. RynoLite and a few other makers offer 48 hole 26 inch rims.

So far I have NOT found a source for the 3" hub 48 spoke, 26" wheels.
Someone has mentioned a wheel from Pedicab. They use a 1" axle, with 48 spokes but they were able to find a tube with a 1" OD and a 5/8 ID. By cutting a keyway into this they were able to use it on a 5/8 axle.
I have not obtained a cost for these wheels yet.
It looks like we are going to build the first DW as Brad suggests, but I'd still like to find some sources and prices. If anyone has a source, please respond. Thank you.

And you won't... they don't exist, and to the best of my knowledge, never have.
AZ mentioned a 48-spoke 3" BMX hub, which can then be laced to a 48-spoke downhill rim like the Rynolite. That's about the best you'll be able to find, and you'll have to measure for proper spoke length yourself.

Nick,
Thank you for the post. Now I can refocus and look again.
