View Full Version : Quartz Lamp Socket, Fresnel Lenses

I am building an overhead projector, ala "Fun with Frenel Lenses, Edmund Scientific" . My plan is to use 500 watt quartz iodine bulbs (dollar store specials) with a series diode to extend lamp life. The problem is, finding a suitable lamp socket.

The other thing is finding a source of fresnel lenses with two diffrernt focal lengths. Thanks for you help!

I wonder how much the voltage drop will change the color temperature of the bulb? The diode will cause the AC sinewave to become chopped DC, so in reality the bulb will burn half as bright. I guess you could go with a full bridge also.

I would expect a huge shift into the red once you drop the voltage.
