Pages 149 and 150 of the plans discuss in warning terms to be sure to place the bearing on the axle before welding the disc brake flange. For the life of me I cannot figure what bearing is being talked about, unless it is the pillow block bearing. Figure 141 shows what looks like abearing between the disc brake flange and the hub but it sure doesnt look like it came from a pillow block. Your help interpreting this would be appreciated!! It is the only stumble I have run across so far. :o

Yes, that round bearing shown in the photo is what you get when the small steel collars are not there. On the cast iron units, the entire bearing would be on the axle.

If you do not place the bearing on first and use the welded flange method, you will never be able to install the bearing past the flange.

Yes, that is the pillow block bearing. If you weld the disk adapter on first you will have no way of mounting the bearing in its location against the hub flange. Be sure to follow the instructions on welding so you don't allow welding current to pass through your bearings.
