I know where to get the Phoenix motor, but did they sell you the swing arm also? Where did you get the swing arm? (I'm on the hunt for one.)

Way to go Joe! (y)

I found a couple of suspension bikes that people put out in the trash. One is now part of the Streetfox, the other is the original 20" I originally had on the tadpole that became the Fox. I need another to match it for another future project. I'll keep looking until I find it, either on trash nights, thrift shops, or Craigslist.

Locutus, Electricrider sells both. You can probably get one here http://www.electricrider.com/crystalyte/parts.htm
I think the 500 series (Phoenix) axles are slightly larger than the 400 series or W.E. axles?? This arm was a bit too loose & I didn't like the way it fit on my 405 or BD 36. As long as you are going with the Phoenix it should fit fine.

Airjnke, I'm looking for a swing arm (rear suspension) not a torque arm. I only saw a torque arm on the web page you provided a link for.

Woops....sorry bout that chief. Guess I kinda got torque on the brain cus' it's almost impossable to find a good one for a Wilderness Energy hub that actually fits.

I just got lucky on that, Mr Borg, & robbed it from the rear of a donor bike that only cost me $6!

YEAH, BABY!!!

It's a little rusty, but not too bad, & it's chrome. I think it'll clean up nicely!

That's about what I used on my push trailer. 300W scooter motor. 24V

Only trouble. The gearing was 11 tooth to 80 tooth and meant for a 12" wheel I think. I bolted that 80T to a free wheel (there's some pics on the forum a little while back.)

Problem was I'm running 20" wheels on the trailer so it's overgeared and only really works well on the flats.

I need to add a jackshaft/drive to mine when I get around to it.

JL, we've got nothing but flat here, we just need to find the right gearing for moderate speed <20mph and decent range ...Hub motor is an expensive alternative for us ...I'd guess you too, what with shipping and all.. Our scooter motor was only 40USD

My motors rpm is 2650 and the gearing is 11 - 80. I have 2 18AH 12v batteries in series. Could have been a bit smaller I hardly discharge them often. They come off charge at 27.6v and usually around 23.5 or 24v at end of ride of 20 mile or so.

I think I could get a bit more power if I had a bypass switch on the controller. I think my controller is inefficient. It certainly doesn't look adequate anyway.

That gearing for me is top about 20 mph. With a 16 inch wheel it would be about 17mph if my math is right. Using a 16 inch wheel might just give you a bit more push at the expense of a few mph.

I have a picture here somewhere of a setup where they used the whole scooter. Just removed the front wheel and other unnecessary bits to make a push trailer. ( I could email it if you're interested. Can't post as its not mine.

It's real easy to set up. Use a back wheel with a BMX freewheel. Have a recessed washer bored to suit the big sprocket bolts and tapped suitably.
Put the washer on the hub, then the freewheel then bolt the sprocket on. The freewheel teeth engage the bolts and keep all tight. Hope that made sense.

You can see the aluminum washer sandwiching the freewheel here.

These pics might help. Mines a 2 wheeler but the principle's the same for one wheel.
