Look what I made...

With a hitch now installed on BOTH, the Trixter AND the Kroozer, & the "gizmo" http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/4055/gizmoqx7.jpg long since finished, motivation is high right now!

Maybe it won't take me 11 months this time...

Now them's some batteries. I guess you are planning to make the trip to town and back for a week before needig a recharge?

Great!

joey is that a 24-36-48-60 volt system???

lets see 24 volt motors running with a over charge at 48volts, your do 50mph before the motorsd ignite aflame.MABY:scooter:

Hmmmm.... let's see...

Oh yeah, it's the name... OVERKILL!!!

BTW, GVB, it's a 48-volt system.

Looks like its coming right along Sir J. You'll soon be motoring down the highway.

Hope you have good brakes when you need to stop with all that battery weight.:)

With my 2 wheel trailer I'd been known to lock up the brakes on the tadpole and still go sliding forward if there was a bit of gravel or wet road. I sometimes think a trailer brake would be useful but how to do it?

Keep the piccies coming.

Thanx John, good advice! Battery weight is ridiculous on this thing!
Yeah, a trailer brake would be great. The canti-posts are still on it,
but unless I was gonna leave the trike & trailer together at all times,
I see no easy way to do it.
"Somebody" needs to invent an electric brake for HPV trailers! :punk:
Okay Brad, I've thrown down the gauntlet again! ;)

A braze on at the fwd. end of the trailor and aft end of the ride with cables run appropiatley. Install a turnbuckle in the middle. That oughta work, hadn't it?:builder2:

Here is how I would do it...

Add a SPDT relay between the controller, motor coils, and a smaller one on the analog line of the throttle so that you can instantly remove the energy going to the motor. A second switch (maybe FETs) would then engage a PWM regen braking system that simply wasted energy as heat. All of this would be activated from a switch on your main brake lever so that things would happen in this order...

1) You engage the lever and the hall effect switch sends a signal to your new mod box

2) The large relays remove the controller from the motor and also the analog throttle so the controller does not go into error mode

3) The PWM braking system is now connected into the motor windings, allowing strong, but not wheel locking brake power to the motor.

This would make it feel like the trailer was not even there.

why just electric, think mechinical.

they used to do that on automotive grailers using a hydrolic system.

my thought is to atach a slider in the pulling yoak atach a brake cable to that. when the trailer slides foward on the sliding yoak it would pull the cable therfor aplying the trailer brake.

with the mass of the trailer it would stop tha thing.:helmet:

I once had a boat trailer with surge brakes. Perhaps a mini verion of that could be built for the cycle bully? Just an idea.

I think Brad has the better idea.
With Mechanical brakes you are going to need a mechanical linkage where as a Regen mode would stop you very easily with an electrical connection. And it would be easier to connect and remove the trailer to any bike you hook it up to. The Hybrids use Regen and it saves on Brake pads in cars. Of course you could get a brake amp for a trailer, add a 12 volt power supply to run it and attach it to a rim center pull brake on the trailer wheel. But I think doing a Regen would be simpler and cheaper to intiate as you already have a motor capable to perform the braking action.

Well, I'll do it when the plans become available.
I don't know electrical stuff... :dunce2:

Trouble with that system on a push trailer is that the pushing trailer will apply the brake and you'll go nowhere.

The trailer pushing has the same effect as an over running trailer.

Brad's suggestion of regen braking is the way to go. Of course I don't have a brushless hub motor so it won't work for me.

You could put the bike brakes on one lever and the regen brake on another perhaps.

The regen brakes on my wheelchair work great. With a total weight of 450 lbs., the chair stopped immediately going 12 mph, and I would actually lurch forward a bit when it stopped. I would imagine that the trike and trailer would stop pretty fast with dual discs on the rear and caliper brakes on the front of the trike, plus the regen brake for the motor.

Thanx, PC.

The triangle is chrome. It was a little rusty, but cleaned up nicely with a brillo pad.
Still have to finish it out with chrome polish. The worst part was removing those
huge, long, chainstay stickers. Thought I never would get 'em off!
Finally resorted to using a wire wheel!

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/6228/reartrianglewh6.jpg

Now, I'm trying to locate a 20" fender for the thing. I don't have a single one,
& I'm hoping to avoid ordering a new one that may or may not work.
Anybody have one they'd sell me or swap out?

Yeah, although monstrously heavy, I think this thing's gonna be a blast!

You tried your heat gun, it has worked for me. Good on paint removel, sometimes. I can't wait to see this finnished. I'm a carpenter by trade, I'd make a wooden fender from local wood. I'm looking into this for my Tour Master.

You mean the "blue-tip wrench"? Might work even better. I was using the wire wheel,
but trying not to scar the chrome. Worked fairly well, just a little light scratching, nothing major,
but the torch might also work without damage to the chrome, if used cautiously. I'll try it next time, thanx.

If this had been painted instead of chrome, I'd have just wire-wheeled it ALL off, paint & ALL,
but in this case, I wanted to salvage the chrome, cuz it still looked pretty good.

...besides, I'm a chrome junkie!

I was refering to a electric heat gun, like a hair dryer 'cept it would melt your hair off. I got mine at Ace Hardware when it was on sale. You only need a cheep one for what we use them for. It gets a little hotter than damm hot!
