Kool, thanx Jim. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've looked through everything I've got, & they're all 28s.
IDEALLY, I'd like a 6 or 7 speed, 13-32, but the main thing I'm after is that big 32
for a real low gear, so I'd settle for a 14-32, even a 5 speed, if I had to.
I can get a brand new 7-speed 13-32 from Nashbar, but they're $25!
...plus shipping!

Thanx Kid, but I already looked at those. I think they're trying to hoodoo somebody. What they're calling a 7 speed is actually a 6, & to make matters worse, it's a 28, of which I have plenty! Luckily, I zoomed in close enough to count the teeth on that Pyramid, just before ordering the darn thing!
As for the Shimano, it says it's a cassette...
Besides, I'm about afraid to go all the way to 34, without megarange ders. 32, maybe...
I already have a 24t chainring, so with a 32t freewheel & 20" wheels, I'll be all the way down to 15 gear inches in low, which is what I want! :punk:
11-32 would be awesome, if there IS such a combo, but I've yet to see one...

With that many teeth, you ride up the side of a mountain! Well, if I'm gonna build the LodeRunner as a true "cargo trike",
then I'm gonna make sure she's geared low enough to climb that big hill
that got me up to nearly 38 mph on the Trixter,
and I wanna be able to do it with a pretty serious load, too,
even if it means crawling along at 2 mph! :)

You will have no problem walking half a ton up a huge hill even with the normal range freewheel. With the 20 inch wheels and small front ring, it will be easier to pedal the LodeRunner up a hill than it would be to push it.
I don't think I ever used the smallest front ring on the LR or even the SF yet, and I have been up some very huge steep hills.

Sir Joey
I got a 14 to 34 tooth from Harris Cyclery. Wanted to insure I could get my 29 inch tires going. So I wanted the ultra low gear. I have not mounted it yet. But wanted to let you know the one I got from Harris is 1) A 7 speed, 2) Freewheel and 3) 14 to 34 teeth is accurate. Hope this helps.

Oops. Yes the Shimano is a cassette. They used to sell Shimano 11-34t freewheels there, but lately I haven't seen them anywhere. The pic of the Pyramid is the wrong one, as they often do at bikepartsusa.com. It really is a 7sp. 14-34t freewheel. The 34 tooth cog is just slightly larger than the 32 tooth, and will get you down to 14 gear inches, not a big diff. I have an 8 sp 11-32t cassette on the wheel I had on the Fox, and I also have a 7sp. 11-34 freewheel that's going on the hauler, (It was first used on my old PVC quad) so I know the difference in size is minimal.
In addition, the large cog on my DR is also 34 tooth, and I have a 34 tooth chainwheel. I'm currently using a plain old Falcon derailler that came off the Fox donor. I had a mega derailler on it at first, but I had problems with getting the gears to change properly. I had the same problem on the quad, and used a standard derailler from a donor instead. The standard deraillers with the megarange cassette work just fine, with a chainring up to 38 teeth. Bigger than that I don't know, because the largest chainring I tried was a 38 tooth.
What really kills me is that I bought the 11-34t mega freewhell about 3 years ago, and it was only 11 bucks!

Their pics & descriptions are lousy anyway.

Good info Kid, thanx! I was even a little worried about attempting it with a 32, let alone a 34,
but I was willing to risk it, and I SURE never thought a standard der would work with a 38! Kool! :taz:

Just make sure you can clear the large cog. With standard rear dropouts, you may need a derailler with a "B" adjustment, (See Sheldon Brown's tutorial) or you may have to find another way to install the screw that holds the derailler in place. It depends on the derailler you're using. With projects like the DW,DR, KC, etc. there's no problem, just position the derailler so it clears the cog.

I do like that, although I don't really want an 8.
As you said though, if worst comes to worst...
Good price on it, though!

Were you actually offering that freewheel, or just suggesting another possible place to buy one?
Perhaps I misunderstood your intent. LMK, thanx. :)

Yes, SJ that question was for you. I am pretty sure I have one in a bucket, and if you are still looking, I will go see if I can find it. Yeah, I'm still lookin'. I can get that one from BP USA for $18, plus $8 shipping.
It's a 14-34, but that's $26 total, still a lot more than I wanna pay if I can avoid it, just for a freewheel!
International shipping from Canada may be just as bad, though. LMK what you find out. Thanx!
Right now, I'm sourcing parts for the LodeRunner. Don't know how long it'll be before I can actually build it,
but I figure it won't hurt to work on getting everything together in the meantime. :)
