Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever used 990/U brakes on any of their projects? How did you like 'em? They are pretty much the standard on real BMX bikes nowadays, and they work great. Much much better than sidepulls. The spring tension is also easily adjustable. I run one on my (normal) bike, and love the feel, because you can set them up to have a long pull and still grab hard. Do you think they would be any good on any hacked creation, or just not worth sourcing the lugs etc? Opinions?

I take it no one here has used them before then?

I've used them on the rear brake of a TE clone with no hassles. Plenty of stopping power.

I find those types of brakes on many of the old speedbikes I tear apart, but find the standard cantilevers to be easier to work with since the cable runs right to the brake. With the other style, you need to worry about what is over top of the brake.
