Is there any reason I shouldn't shorten the pilot's head tube to match the front head tube?

I believe it shouldn't matter. Looking at mine I couldn't see why not. The steering arm is a modified gooseneck under the steering head and has room to remove without undoing the headset but will the gooseneck fit properly inside is determined by how short you make the headset. Be aware of this. On my Tourmaster I used the same type of headset (not the one in the plan) and I have to release the headset and insert everything as one unit. This is acceptable and I could have done better. Next time! Sounds like your building a great ride. Have fun!:rockon:
