Seems like the forum has slowed down quite a lot in the cold days of winter. Lets all hope that with warm weather right around the corner (at least for some of us) that the forums will pick back up. I know I am still relatively new to this site, and this is my first winter season with it as well, but I didn't expect to see things slow down as much as they have. I will most likely be begining my DW project in the Spring with n9viw showing me the ropes with welding and what-not. I will keep a running work log posted on the site to show off our progress.

Seems like the forum has slowed down quite a lot in the cold days of winter..Never fear...we're always here. It's just the Winter Hibernation mode, but we're always thinking, designing, planning. I'm putting the finishing touches on my 'Quad Mod' and the drawing board has a rough sketch of a future trike.
Stay tuned and 'Think Spring...!!!'

If it's dry and above freezing, I'm welding. Below freezing, I'm cutting. (My welds don't come out too good when the temp drops below 30F.) If it's raining or dark, I'm drawing. I have friends working on the quad, but they haven't gotten very far. I think all that's done is the rear and the main frame. The front end is being worked on slowly.
I received a few bikes and have been hacking them up. I managed to cut them all up and disassemble the brakes, chainrings, etc. One of the bikes had a Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub, and another had an SA 8 speed hub with disk brake threads. I laced the SA hub to a 20" Alex DM 24 rim. The Shimano was on a 24" rim, so I laced it to a 26" rim and will be installing it on the tadpole.
I also started working on a chopper trike. The plan is to work the legs of a suspension fork into a tree. I'm waiting for some sheet metal to make the tree with. I'm making the head tube a bit long, and have already extended steering tube.
I've been spending a lot of time riding the tadpole, and finding there's room for improvement. As soon as I get something else ready to ride, I'll be working on that. The tadpole is truly a joy to ride, but a fairing would help a lot when riding against the wind. I want the fairing to be as narrow as possible, so the steering will have to be changed. I've been investigating joystick/universal OS steering, and it seems to fit the bill nicely.

As for me, the weather's been hit & miss here. Some beautiful days, some not. Seems like when it's nice enough to work, I feel too bad, then when I wanna work, it's rainy or blustery.
Anyway, DW almost done! :D Ramble on, Pagan!

It's from Tolkien. I'm not sure if it was from The Hobbit, or one of the sequels. (The Lord of the Rings)

Actually it is a quote from Led Zeppelin's song "Ramble On" which borrowed the LOTR theme for the song.

Funny, I never paid attention to the lyrics of that song. "How years ago in days of old when magic filled the air" and "slipped away with her" seem to stand out. I haven't heard that song for years, and didn't put two and two together. Excellent choice for a quote, I must say. How about this one:
"A preachment dear friends you're about to receive on John Barleycorn nicotine and the temptations of Eve"

Winter blahs have me, for sure. I've been out to the garage maybe a half-dozen times in the last two months. The longest period of time I spent out there, I installed a new-to-me wood stove, which doesn't even work as well as the old one! D'oh.
In the meantime, I've stacked a bunch of boxes in there, moved stuff around, and generally futzed. Oh, I did add a BMX bike to the cut collection, but haven't done anything with it. I feel like such a loss... :o
I was hoping to get another garage night this week, but the wife is champing at the bit for me to install a bedroom door so she can stain it the same color as the other ones, and do a number of other 'honey-do's' on the house. Dangit woman, I need my cave time! Ahr ahr ahr... :D

I know I've heard it before spoken by someone with a southern preacher's accent in a song, but for the life of me, I can't remember the song title.

It was followed by a "Bronx Cheer" - The opening lines of "Let It Out" by The Hombres. After the opening, the music started, which sounded exactly like "Gloria" by The Shadows of Night. The lyrics were spoken, so I guess this was an early version of Rap. (Circa 1968 or 69) The first verse was: "No parking by the sewer sign, Hot Dog! My razor's broke. Water drippin up the spout, but I don't care, let it all hang out."
What that has to do with John Barleycorn, nicotine or the temptations of Eve, I'll never know.

Trust teh Googlez, mah chilluns; teh Googlez is good, teh Googlez is wize... ;)
From http://www.abc.net.au/coodabeens/stories/s1911099.htm :
The Hombres - Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)
"From Memphis Tennessee, The Hombres were a hard-working 60s garage-rock band who found chart success with this catchy and kooky offering in 1967. The unusual spoken word 'preaching' preceding the insistent organ stabs were borrowed from country act Red Ingle and His Natural Seven. They intoduced their 1947 Cigareetes Whusky And Wild, Wild Women track with "A preachment dear friend you are about to receive on John Barleycorn, nicotine, and the temptation of Eve." For the trivia-minded, keyboardist B.B. Cunningham was the brother of Bill Cunningham from The Box Tops."

Cigarettes, Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women
by Tim Spencer, 1947
Dear Friends: A little warning never did anybody any harm, and there are manifold temptations in this world, all of which you would do well to avoid. So let’s sit down and sing together, and learn a little bit about life from the mistakes of a poor sinner who has seen the error of his ways…
(spoken)
A preachment, dear friends, you’re about to receive,
on John Barleycorn, nicotine, and the temptations of Eve…
(sung)
I once was happy and I had a good life
I had enough money to last me for life
I met with a gal and we went on a spree
She taught me to smoke and to drink whiskey.
Refrain:
Cigareets and whuskey and wild wild wimmin
They’ll drive you crazy they’ll drive you insane.
Cigareets and whuskey and wild wild wimmin
They’ll drive you crazy they’ll drive you insane.
Cigareets is a blot on the whole human race.
A man is a monkey with one in his face.
That’s my definition, believe me dear brother,
A fire on one end and a fool on the t’other.
(Refrain)
Write on the cross at the head of my grave
“To wimmin and whuskey here lies a poor slave”.
Take warning dear stranger, take warning dear friend,
They’ll write in big letters these words at my end:
(Refrain)
They’ll drive you crazy they’ll drive you insane.
Hallelujah brother!
