Only a few weeks into this and of course like most, reading and mostly lost. I reside in the Atl area around Kennesaw. I have the plans to the Delta Runner and plan very much to build. A few questions here if you will allow. What type gearing is one looking for on this trike? Would a old tenspeed be good? Then there is the thought, which one is better than the other? The bike shops here are very expensive and scrounging is the plan. How wide should the rims be? Not narrow I would assume. Looking forward to getting to know some of you for sure and hope you all can lend a hand from time to time. Not looking to build a screaming eagle just an easy to pump trike etc. I will be checking into the SE section daily so hope to hear soon. Thanks and for now until a change---gphil

Just south of you in Smyrna. I don't always have a lot of time to help (what with work and honey-do lists), but I have a small MIG, a stick welder, a truck and a reasonable stash of parts if you need some help. I also know a few good places to buy steel.

I built my DW with narrow wheels, (27x1.25) without incident but its not intended to haul freight and I had a nice old 10 speed schwinn racer on hand. The hubs I made for it are of course much wider than the rims. I would think that any stout set of 26" MTB wheels wold be ok for the rims, and I see a lot of old 26" cruiser type bikes on Craigslist. The last one I bought off there (a very stout Schwinn cruiser) was about $30. That said, I weigh less than 200#, so some of the more substantial men here may have other suggestions. I mostly ride the Silver Comet so I seldom hit potholes.

If I were you I would look for a MegaRange rear sprocket (11-34) and whatever double or triple crank you can find. That way you will have a good high speed gear, but also a stump puller to climb hills with. This one came off a thrift store bike and you will see the big stump pulling gear.

Best source I have found for old bikes around here are the Thrift stores and Craigslist. Expect to pay anywhere from $6-$60 per bike, depending on condition and what the store thinks its worth. Sometimes I wonder what they were thinking lol.

Performance Bicycle has 3 locations in the Atlanta area. They are cheap, but carry mostly roadie stuff. I sometimes buy tires and tubes there.

Hello and welcome!

You will get a lot more response in the DW thread, as this one is mainly for met and greet.

I sent you a PM with my phone number. Then again, I guess I didn't since you have your email blocked. Give me a ring anytime. As for cheap new bikes, Walmart usually has some pretty good deals.

I will have to go and change things around so as to have a more direct line so to speak. Thing with me I have now just passed the test on how to power up a computer much less chat on a site like this. I am still learning how to navigate in this realm. I'll get it. Strange, I was a Wally Mart today looking at the bikes some good ones at a very reasonable price. But then the name of the game here is how to "rat rod" a trike so to speak. I am an older guy but into all. Like planes , cars, motorcycles, now bikes. I have a Karmann Ghia that will be finished soon and it is a looker. Is there anything on the gear hubs (sprokets) that designates the ratio's? Which ones are generally rated as being the best. Got some questons about welders but that can come later. Forgive the ranting here so hope to hear from you soon.

Got the message from "she who must be obeyed" to finish it so I am. Of course being a rodder from the past the engine is a little humper than stock. Freeway traffic here in Atl. Thanks for the come back and I check here several times a day. Just finished the workbench in order to start on the bike. Excuse me trike. See ya
