How much did you actually spend on your StreetFighter? I was doing a little pricing on a slightly modified version, and came out to over $500. Am I way off, or is it just pricey?

With new rims, spokes, tires, crankset, cables, and the other little bits, that is a fair guess.
I usually say that building your own HPV with mostly new parts will cost you about 10x less than a new one. So, $500 is about right.

... $500 ???
... I should have married an accountant before I started this project.
I began with the idea that I could scavange all my parts off old discarded Huffys.
... WRONG
But I am amazed at all the guys talking about buying a mtn bike at wallyworld to hack for parts.
Guys, spend your $ on steel and tools.
& if your accountant isnt looking...
... cool stuff like 105 BB & Chain rings, barend shifters, disc brakes, machined parts, CNC'd iron cross pedals, electric motors, lights, bags, wood fenders, fairings, do I need to continue?
I lost count about 5 months ago.
I hope I have as much fun riding it as I have buying parts, buying tools, cutting up old relics, throwing sparks, and generally creating a radical pedal car.
Remember - Only spend what you have.

And I didn't even price in any bells and whistles (I like simple better anyway). But I guess when you factor in 4 tires, wheels and the like, and all the bearings/locks/sprockets/shafts in the drivetrain, it adds up fast. I shouldn't really complain, a custom specced BMX bike can run upwards of $1500. I don't even want to mention what you'd pay for a high end roadie or MTB.
And then there's the project that I still haven't finished, and spent a summer's worth of pay on.:thinking2:
