I need a project while I gather the parts for the Cruiser. I've tossed up between the Maurauder and the high roller. I think the Maurauder is winning at the moment.

The new version has suspension. I wonder if this is esential as I dont have a suitable back end. Guess I could cobble one up from a standard one and use the BB as the pivot and maybe elastomer in place of the shock absorber spring.

What do the Zombies think? No suspension, Make one with an elastomer or go look for a suspension bike to cannabilise?

Heres a link to Woody. Take a look at his suspension rear. This is what I have in mind.

John I would say that one is up to you . I do know there is one other member here building an original marauder before the suspension was added. GregLWB is building one of the originals from the book .

You're quick off the mark Ric.

I just added a link in the original post to what I have in mind.

Personally, I can't wait to build a LWB with suspension.
I've been planning it for well over a year now.
It'll resemble something between the M2, & my very first bent, a Rans Stratus,
but first I have to finish the Quad-Mod, the Trike-Kit, & a LWB I'm planning for my sister's birthday present. WHEW! :sweatdrop:

Sounds like you'll be a busy boy Joey! :builder2:

Rans make some nice bikes but I won't be buying anything unless I win the Lotto. Think I'd like a NoComm just for the bragging rights. :jester:
I'm only going to build two this year unless somebody comes along wanting a build then that will add to the numbers.

Yes Charles, I don't think I really need suspension here on the roads I'd likely ride a lowracer. Still it would be nice if I can do it light enough. Hence the thought of an elastomer.

Another point is that I could make the back end like the Brompton folder which has elastomer suspension. Then I can fold the rear under and forward for transport.

Hope you're beginning to dry out up there by now although what I saw on TV still looks darn wet.:boat:

Sounds like you'll be a busy boy Joey! You got that right, John! For a little while, anyway.
Sis' birthday is in May, so I've got a LITTLE time,
but I daren't skroo around too long,
cuz her bike will take me at least a month to build!

Rans make some nice bikes but I won't be buying anything unless I win the Lotto.Same here. I'll never buy one again, except for donors. I bought that Rans back in '85.
Wish I had kept it though, just cuz it was my first bent. Still, NOW I can build my own!
Granted, not the quality of a factory machine, but only a fraction of the cost,
& I'd rather brag about having built something, than about how much money I wasted!

(and believe me, I know about wasting $ on HPVs, between the Rans,
the Rhoades Car, the ActionBent tadpole, & several expensive upwrongs!)

...but NOW, I'm ZOMBIEFIED, & know better! :punk:

That's what I'm doing too: building a Marauder v.1 while waiting for parts from Taiwan for my electric Street Fox build. I'm finding it to be good practice so that I can do an even better job on the Street Fox. I found rear suspensions to be hard to find at a good price (read: CHEAP!), so I decided to build the standard frame from the book, except a mod to the seat post to resemble the newer version. If you can find a rear suspension, I suspect the rear end will be easier to build than the standard version, but speed may suffer a bit. Why not try building the standard frame and mount suspension tires like the Schwalbe Big Apple?

Actually not the Marauder, I got the plans for the TourMaster. The Marauder sits too low to the ground for me.

My plans are for the updated version.

I don't see much difficulty in modding it though.

Got hold of a shocker spring set up from a mountain bike today. I could use it with a hombrew back end but it seems a bit heavy so I might investigate elastomers or the woody setup a bit further. He used silastic in a metal tube as the shocker.
The original python I think used layers of rubber strip so there are a lot of possibilities.

I have all the parts now except wheels which I can borrow from my SWB for starters and the rear end. Time to make a start.
