Has anyone ever built a tadpole with 27" wheels? All the donor bikes I have got off of freecycle have 27 inch wheels. i was planning to build highracers for daughters who are 4'9" and 5'2" but unsure of seat height with large wheels. I would like to keep wheel size same on a bike. I have a wizwheel with 20" all around and a challenge with 20". I have yet to start my first build and want to keep simple as possible.

I wouldn't. I bent the first rear wheel I put on my streetfox. I took a corner too hard and it bent it so far over it wouldn't roll. I don't think a 27" would stand a chance unless you were REALLY gentle with it.

26" mountain rears will work fine. Make sure you stress the spokes a bit and re-snug them all before you take it out.

You could always widen the hubs, ala DeltaWolf.
Then, you could use any wheel you want! :)

It may be entirely possible to build a StreetFox with a 27" or 700c wheel. That's what on the back of the Catrike 700 -- with 16" up front. From all I've heard of it, the trike is wicked fast.

And if you want to see one the trickest looking 700s on the planet here is Silk from Jay Alex Artis of BentRider Online:

So, a 700 or 27" can be done. I'm not sure it's best for the StreetFox design though.
