Since no one else started the painting thread here, I'll start with an interesting item on "How It's Made". They described the process for making goalie masks. After it was formed, it was painted white. Then they put a design into a kind of printer ( sign makers use this type of machine for lettering - they cost about $700) that cuts the design into a vinyl sheet, something like contact paper. The design is removed from the sheet, and affixed firmly to the mask. Then they paint the whole mask a different color, and add some more vinyl graphics. They showed another technique after that. The mask was sprayed with water, which beads up on the paint. The entire mask is then painted a third color, while wet. They use a heat gun which dries the water, leaving a bead of paint. Then they peel off the vinyl, which leaves the graphics in the color they covered. The mask is then clear coated.
