http://www.forum.freakbikenation.com/phpBB3/images/smilies/weld2.gif After much cutting, welding and head scratching, it's finally done (or nearly at least). Wow, what a blast to ride, thanks for the inspiration Brad! The frame/bike was made completely from junked bicycles and leftover scrap from other projects, a real re-cycling project. With the exception of the tires, grips, idler pulley and $1.67 a can spray paint, it was a free build. These things handle great, more like driving a two wheeled go-kart than riding a bicycle. When on the large chainring there are some rubbing issues on the underside of the seat bracket but I'll add some type of roller wheel or chainguide there, but that's mostly it for problems so far. It's quite an adreneline rush speeding around corners with your heels dragging on the pavement. Looking forward to my next build.

Alan

Beautiful work!!!

It is amazing considering that you used all recycled tubes. Your joins look great - what kind of welding process did you use?

Great build dude! Thanks for the photos!
Can Kat steal a photo for the gallery?
What is the name of that color?

Nice!

Thank you all for the compliments::cool:

Brad, it'd be an honour to have a pic in the gallery, thanks. I know it would have been a bit easier if I'd actually bought the plans but I kinda eyeballed the pics on the site and tried my own very low-buck hacker design. I'd love to buy the tadpole plans and build one of those. The oval tubing (and all the other parts) came from a couple of those cheap mtb you see everywhere, I got mine for free. One bike had straight tubing, the other had slight curves to it, at first I thought it may look dumb mixing them but I'm okay with the finished product. I just cut the pieces on matching diagonals, clamped them onto a 2"x6" to keep them straight, tacked them both sides and ground the welds after with my trusty 4.5" angle grinder and dressed them after with a hand file. My jig was constucted in great hacker style: it consisted of two 2"x4" clamped to each side of the wheels to keep them aligned. For the (possibly first) spray can paint job I didn't even bother to cover the joints with bondo as most of the build happened outside in my unheated workshop during near 0c temps. The colour is Duplicolour yellow anodized finish over Duplicolour metallic silver wheel paint which I bought for $1.67 at the local liquidator and used gloss black tremclad I already had. I wanted to be highly visible but a bit different as most Marauders seem to be solid yellow like Brad's original one. In the sunlight it's a sparkly yellowish/greenish/gold, I was a bit surprised by the colour at first but it's beginning to grow on me. It's an absolute blast to ride and people wave, give the 'thumbs up' and roll their car windows down to comment all the time. Thanks for the inspiration everyone. Brad, you ROCK! :punk:

OCD- you might also want to consider Brad's and Kat's books. Both of the bicycle books contain plans. The first one has the original Marauder plans and many more. The second one has the plans for the Delta Wolf and the tadpole trike (StreetFox) and many more. I have them both and they are excellent.

Hi OCD,

That is a seriously nice build. The lines of the oval tubing really look great and the colour sets it off to perfection.

If it rides half as nice as it looks it will be really something.

Congratulations on a great build.
