Finally finished! I got the seat back from the upholsterers last evening and bolted it straight on for a test ride. Handles brilliantly - some small wobble at low speed, but it rides just as you described it, Brad.
The slight upstand on the back of the seat is a must have - I tried it without and found that I had to pull on the bars to stay on the seat. This way I can push hard on the pedals and still have one hand free to wave to the crowds...
The brake is barely adequate, but it's really only going to be ridden on the flat so I'm not too worried about that. Next time I'll go with a disc brake, and possible a rear brake as well.
My daughter's coach came round an hour ago and was thrilled when he saw it. It is a very belated Christmas gift for him to say thanks for all he has done for us, and it was great seeing him so pleased.
Brad and Kat - this project has been the most fun I have had building anything for years and years. Thanks a heap for your plans - they are absolutely spot on! We're just starting into our autumn now - it's nothing like yours, though - so I'm busy thinking of which bike I'll start on next to keep me busy through the winter.
Cheers, Phil
