I was wondering if it might be possible to put the battery powered motor that drives the Silent Speedster Scooter onto a DW. A rear tray like SirJoey just added to his DW could be used to hold the batteries, but is the motor and whatnot compatable to a DW?? If it is possible, maybe a solar panel could be somehow mounted above the batteries to provide a constant source of recharging for them as well. I did see the electric motor conversion video that Brad posted, but what I am talking about is a battery powered set-up like the Silent Speedster.
With me being on the temporary IR list, am I sounding like I have too much time on my hands?

Hey PW,
Who knows what great stuff you'll come up with, while sitting there pondering? Keep those creative juices flowing! :)

In fact with me sitting here thinking even further into this possible mod, I think that with the DW having a split rear axle, one could be used for the standard cassette and the other for the battery powered motor. Of course, both axles would still (at least on the DW I am planning) have a disc brake, and both would be operated by the same lever.

I have a feeling PW, that when you finally build this thing, it's gonna be something truly special! Maybe a little wizardly magic applied here & there, eh?
Can't wait to see what rolls out of the Pagan Wizard workshop first! (Bet you can't either, huh?) :)

Sadly, there is no "Pagan Wizard Workshop" :( While I do own a welder, mask, and gloves, I do not know how to use the welder, nor do I even have a safe place to use it. Fortunately this forum has managed to introduce me to n9viw (altho not yet face to face) who just happens to live very close to me. n9 has also expressed his willingness to show me how to weld, as well as the possibility of providing a safe place to build this ride. That being said, I am hoping to start this project in the next several weeks, as it is still way too cold here for me (and I am sure n9 as well) to want to spend that much time outdoors cutting, grinding, and welding.
I am sure there will be at least some "wizardly magic" getting put into this build.

I'm saving my pennies to buy the motor for my DW, too.

I don't see the bank of batteries in this video like what the Silent Speedster has.

Note the 4 batteries on the bottom of the Silent Speedster's frame.
I was thinking about using the Speedster's batteries, resting on a rear mounted tray like SirJoey and a few others have on their bikes. I don't think the Speedster has the same motor that Brad used in that video you linked to. If I am wrong, I don't see where he is hiding the batteries.

As you've discovered, Brad is a very crafty fellow. Look carefully at the video again and note the small 36 volt battery pack behind his neck.
Very 'stealthy'....
Here's another one from the same year (2006)...

OK.....I see it now. I didn't realize that the huge diameter hub on the front wheel was actually the electric motor. I was thinking that the motor would be mounted to the rear wheel. Pain killers are blurring my thought process. I guess that means no front brake either huh......or is the brake built into the motor?? How much does that motor and battery cost and where to buy it??
BTW RR, how much does your blogspot account cost, or is it free? I am getting ready to get serious about my build, and I want a place to keep record of all my efforts and mistakes.
