I have been searching hard for some type of small front steering differential for our Arcturus project with absolutely no luck. Seems that all front Jeep differentials have been swallowed up in a black hole in Ontario, so if anyone knows of a vehicle other than Jeep that has something that looks like this, I would be jumping for joy...

All I care about is that the steering and all hardware is included with the differential so it is one single part - no CV joints or trans-axles.

Smaller is better (Jeep), but i am getting desperate now after talking to every car part dealer and getting the same answer.... good luck!

We are willing to drive up to a day to get it.

I can find Farrari and Porsche parts here, but not a Jeep differential, go figure!!!!!!!!!

The one from the front of the 2 stroke Suzuki 4WD that I once owned would be ideal. Very light. Come to that the whole vehicle was so light you could have put pedals on it. Two of us could lift it off the ground and move it if we bogged on a beach. :jester:

Probably a good suggestion on the Suburu vs the jeep. I used to own a Jeep Cherokee 4WD and man was that thing heavy. It got terrible mileage because of it. It sounds like Brad found what he needed anyway.

The place that found me the CJ Diff. actually had a Suzuki Samurai front diff. as well but to be honest it looked flimsy and actually heavier than the one I ended up with due to some massive ball joint type of thing at each end. The guy als0 recommended against it as it would have an odd bolt pattern and brake parts would be hard to find. I now have a perfect diff. and even a pair of aluminum rims/tires to start working with.

I hope to put up an official Arcturus website soon to detail the massive amount of detail that will go into this project.

Good deal Brad. That massive ball joint thing is called a birfield joint. A real PITA to play with in the field if you pop one. So when do you start the build?

Already started.... pulled the entire diff. apart to clean it up and send the rotors to be machined. I hope to add something new every week.
