I started making my seat today. It's the seat I was using for the tadpole last fall. I was supposed to get the cushions done by a friend, but she was too busy. I got rid of the plywood and cut three pieces of fiberglassto replace them. I'm using the frame from my boat seat to hold the fiberglass. I decided to connect the three pieces of glass together with some fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. I prefer it over polyester resin because there are no fumes and it doesn't burn your skin if you touch it. In fact, it doesn't get hot like polyester. The only drawback is that I got the long curing hardener, and in cooler weather takes forever to dry. I got the three pieces together, and I'm going to cover the seat with the same fabric as the cushions, then epoxy over the cloth.. The epoxy dries clear, so the seat and cushion will match nicely. I sewed the three cushions together, and recovered them as one unit. It came out pretty good, and looks much better than it did. I already cancelled the order for the Bachetta foam, which was 2" thick. What I have now is 6" of foam on the bottom, and the back is 2". I've already tested the DW with the cushions as they were, and it's quite comfy. But it looked like crap, so now I'll have a seat that looks decent ad is comfy to boot. This is the seat as it was. I'll have photos of the improvements when I'm done

Oh ya, I could roll up to my office desk on that, and sit there all day!

Great stuff.

Thanks Brad. The cushions were sewn together, and a new removable-for-washing cover was made. My upholstery skills leave much to be desired, but now the cushion will be easier to install and remove. And IMHO, it looks better.

Kudos to you "TheKid"
Ever thought about chucking it all and making these things full time??? Just beautiful and comfy beyond compare I bet. I think I see where the foot rest swings out from but where did you hide the cup holder???

Very nice! Seats are always my biggest problem. I've yet to come up with one I'm happy with, unless I buy it...

I'd buy one of these.

Thanks guys. But don't ask to see the backs of any of the cushions or the cover. Like I said, my upholstery skills leave much to be desired. It took 3 days to do the cushions the first time, and 2 days to make the easier removable cover. I think all my future projects will incorporate mesh seats.
