Anyone wanting to have laser cut hub flanges, 24 hole, with a 4 & 6 hole rotor pattern laser cut into them, as well as an adaptor that has the 4 & 6 rotor pattern, and a backing plate with the same pattern, please let me know via email.
I am awaiting a quote from my local laser cutter for the parts, and all I need to know is how many to get, postage is on me and so are the kits if enough people are interested!
one kit wil have one hub flange 48 hole , two adaptors, and two backing plates

I'd be willing to share my part of the costs.
Can I assume these are for trike front hubs?
PeterT

These adaptors will allow a disc brake to be fitted to any wheel; 10"-27", front or rear, left side or right side, trike, bike, or quad, crossed spoke or radial.
The only thing you will need to add is a rubber patch to place between the spokes and the backing plate, to tighten the adaptors up onto.

Hi Peter, I'm having a brain fart moment. I'm finding it difficult to envision how they actually tighten to any hub.
Any other pictures drawings etc?
Thanks

Savarin,
The pics are in post #2 of this thread.
The adaptors go on the outside of the spokes, and the half plates go behind the spokes to allow the screws to bolt into.
All the holes for the rotors will be tapped for 5mm bolts, so all you have to do is cut an old tyre to the shape of the adaptor, drill through the threaded holes with a smaller drill size to establish your centres in the rubber mat, drill bigger holes through the rubber, place adaptor up against outside of spokes, slide back plate in behind spokes and thread 5mm bolt through adaptor, rubber mat, and into backing plate, and tighten bolts...
Hey Presto any wheel can now have disc brakes fitted

...so all you have to do is cut an old tyre to the shape of the adaptor...What, you're not even gonna cut the rubber for us? :jester:
Do we have to do EVERYTHING? :laugh3:

SJ,
Look at how many used tyres are just sitting around in USA, waiting to become a donor patch of rubber for your many projects.
Got the quote back, getting a sample made to tap holes and check alignment, and then they will be batch cut, and sent!

Thanx for the interest!
Those who are wanting me to send them a kit, will need to email me their postal address, and approximately how many they are wanting.
It may be possible for the laser cutters to do other than 48 spoke hubs, but will need to know how many are required

Hi Guys/gals,
Should make it a bit clearer for everyone.
The adaptor kit will fit (SHOULD FIT) every size wheel that has been made, and the kits will include enough parts to fit disc brakes to the existing wheel.
The hub flanges are for those wanting to build or rebuild their wheels with disc brakes, and I will include a pair of flanges for those that want them
My apologies for any confusion
PeterT
ps DONT COPY my drawings! they have a serious error in them, which I will correct when i get my pc working again, and then forward the correct drawings to the laser cutter :1eye:

Just to give you an update...
these are the NEW drawings for the hub/disc brake adaptors
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2434/3933320767_42b967b743.jpg
and for those who have ordered some, this is what I will be sending ...
a) adaptor kit: this will include enough parts of the adaptor ring to bring the disc out to the standard setting for disc brakes, and one pair of backing plates for each kit.
b) hub flanges: a matched pair consiting of one rotor holes hub, and one plain hub with specified spoke hole number; e.g. a 48 hole rim would receive 1x24 hole rotor hub flange, and one plain 24 hole hub flange.
The rotor holes contain the spacings for 4 & 6 hole bike rotors, as well as the spacings for the pocket rocket rotors and adaptor ring. Will post a pic when I have all three available.
anyone else interested,
email me your details and I will add you to the order list

These are the types of rotors that will fit the rotor adaptor kit
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2566/3949806509_37b7ba4caf.jpg
top: 4 hole rotor
middle: 180mm standard 6 hole rotor
bottom: rotors from pocket rocket motorbikes and electric scooters, with adaptor ring to suit.
4 Hole rotors are old technology, but you may have some you want to use, and the hubs using an adaptor plate have a different centre line to the standard 6 hole bike rotor, so I have made it possible for any type of rotor to be retro fitted to your rides. :scooter:
Haven't got the new drawings to the laser cutters yet, so if your ride is waiting for these adaptors and kits; my apologies!

Finally got the drawings for these parts to the laser cutters
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2434/3933320767_42b967b743_m.jpg
and I now want to totally confirm the following people are wanting the amounts as shown.
These parts are being sent out to those who want them, free of charge, and each kit will contain an inner hub flange, (with rotor mounting holes), an outer hub flange (without rotor mounting holes), plus the adaptor rings, spacers and backing plates to suit.
Others are free to add their names to this list, please email me your postal details and amount of kits required.
If your name isn't on this list, and you have expressed interest, it is because I don't have your postal details yet, or your required quantites.
All kits will come with adaptor kits to retro fit discs to older hubs.

DaveC here, and definitely interested in the disc brake adapter kit. Not sure what info you need for the correct kit, or is it one kit fits most? I have donor bikes with and without rear suspension. 24 to 26 inch wheels, not sure how many spokes. Not fancy bikes, just the local WalMart, Kmart, etc. variety, but good for lots of parts. Great to find this info as I plan to build at least one Marauder 2 for me and a Meridian for my wife. Son in law wants one too, so I will probably end up building another one, plus a small bike for the grandson. Thanks for a great forum, this soooo cool!!!

Has anyone tried this product http://www.bicycledesigner.com/defaulthome.asp?Main=/datasheet.asp%3FPartNumber%3D505202 I am really just interested in the adapter to mount a drive sprocket that I have. I have been trying to find out with no luck if it fits most brake hole patterns, or that odd scooter size
Cheers
PeterT
02-06-2010, 06:54 PM
it is that odd size off of electric scooters
all bike disc brakes have a slightly larger pcd, have a look back through this thread, and you should find a picture of the various size rotors; see post #26
The bottom one is the same as you have been looking at, the others are off of bikes
Post #21shows the actual variances between the different sizes of pcd.
PeterT
ps. the adaptor ring will screw straight onto the threads that your freewheel comes off, and the BB Threaded nuts will screw straight into the adaptor rings :)

OK I have 8 parcels ready to post tomorrow, more to go out soon!
To save ink and my printerheads;
The hub flanges have been cut with a 16mm centre hole to suit extension bars for socket sets. Each set of flanges has a rotor side, and a non rotor side. and the rotor holes must be aligned with your rotor direction prior to building your wheels
The adaptor rings and backing plates will only mate together one way, align and mark before you try and get frustrated fitting them to the wheels!
The backing plates have been cut for a 5mm tapped thread, but as most of you are in the USA, you can tap to the closest thread you use.
You will need to cut a small disc of rubber out of a side wall of a car tyre, and place between the adaptor ring and your spokes, and you could even put one on the inside of the spokes between the backing plate, and the spokes, to make sure the adaptors are locked to the spokes.
Enjoy and let me know how they work.
ps those who receive Australian stickers, all I ask is that when you have finished your hubs with paint /chrome etc, that you place a small OZ sticker on the inside of the hub or some where visible.
Thanx
PeterT
