A poor boy has poor boy ways...
For the rear wheel, I use a rear frame triangle, clamped in the vice:

For the front wheel, I simply use a fork, the same way:

Just need a magnetic dial indicator....pretty cool idea! anyone ever built a budget bike vice? Bikes are a pain to work on when you cant hold on to them. I was thinking about taking a cou[le pieces of 2x4 and boring a 1"hole in them and ripping them in half then running a couple through bolts in them to hold the pieces together around the top tube and then C clamping it to my bench or clamping it into my bench vice.

with some inner tube, when working on something with nice paint.
Go for it, & post some pics! :)

The Bitex hubs finally arrived !!
I hold the post with my left hand with my thumbnail next to the wheel while a screwdriver in my right hand tweakes the nipples one at a time.

When I used a fork for truing I used to put a couple of cable ties round the fork to use as indicators. Just move them close to the rim. You can get good accuracy, No dial indicator necessary.

What is a true wheel? Can there be a false one? :jester:
Good ideas. When I made the wheels for the DW, I used to pillow block bearings and an old spoke screwed to the same board. Worked pretty good too.

Yeah, a dial indicator isn't a necessity to do precision truing,
but it DOES make it a little easier, IMO. :)

I am now working on making an adaptor ring that will allow any wheel to have a disc brake fitted to it, on the left side as well as the right side.
Interested?
They will be laser cut for precision, and include a hole pattern for 6 hole, and 4 hole rotors.

Gonna be pricey, though, I'll bet. :greedy:

Nope!
They will basically be the cost of postage, I am sooooo sick of wanting to have discs but having them only on certain types of rims, which inhibits creativity, ... there are no 48 hole disc brake mounts in the world, and if someone wants to have 72 hole radial spokes they can't have disc brakes, etc, so I figure it is time to change that nonsense!
Anyone interested, email me your postal details and when I get them cut, I'll send them out

I'm interested Peter.
Are they just for the homemade axles or other hubs as well.
I hand made a set for a bmx hub I had but they have not been tried out yet so may even fail the first time in use.
About half way down
