No technical info here, really, just mainly showing what's possible.

Started out with this ol' cruddy, rusty mess:

Freewheel removed:

Old grease cleaned out. Rusty, oversized, antique spoke protector
replaced with smaller, modern clear one:

A grody lookin' ol' freewheel, to be sure, but mechanically sound:

Thoroughly cleaned inside & out, with rags & wire brushes:

Axle & bearings cleaned. I like to keep the bearings from each side
seperated, & reinstall them in their original locations:

A few drops of trusty 3-in-1 oil in the freewheel, & she's smooth as silk!
Freshly greased bearings, everything reassembled, adjusted, & VOILA!

She's ready to go on my latest ride! :D

I saw once you used Purple Power on a wheel in the News Letter September 2009. Would you use it here to clean? I was thinking of using stuff like that.

Also do you do windows?:laugh3:

Also do you do windows?:laugh3:I wouldn't use it on the freewheel, cuz it cuts grease & oil real well. Wouldn't want it to get inside there. Anything else... heck yeah!
With a scrub brush, it works great on tires! I buy the stuff by the gallon, & mix it 50/50 with water in a spray bottle.

I always spray all parts to be painted with it, even frames, then rinse with water for a "squeeky clean" surface.

Sorry, I don't do vinders & dishes... :laugh3:

.........but if you was going to strip those parts down to regrease them then you'd use it.... cool. I like that part about doing it before paint.

I took all my dishes and threw them at my windows. I won't be needing your service!

I took all my dishes and threw them at my windows. I won't be needing your service!Yep! I even wash my bearings with the stuff. Caged ones get washed in solvent first,
then Purple Power to remove the solvent. Rinse with garden hose, dry in the sun,
or use blow-dryer, & they're dry & clean like new, ready for fresh grease!

LOL at "dishes thrown at windows"! :laugh3:
