Hello;

I was able to get 2 - 1" tube/spindle forks (no tube)

The question is : is it possible to use plumbing or other pipe (of proper diameter) for head tubes?

especially since they need to be cut to 2.5 inches......

Regards; PaulPb

I've used several types / sizes of fence rail or EMT,(all galvanized) with no problems so far. Your best bet is to get the Headsets (races and bearings) that fit your forks and then go to Home Depot, Lowes,Ace hardware or where ever you like to shop for stuff, to find the right sized tubing. Test fit the races to get the right size tubing.
I had a real hard time finding new headsets that fit my old bikes that I cut up, when I wanted to put new bearings and races in my older stuff. I finally found most of mine were the old BMX / MTB style headsets. But match them to your fork threads first and then you should be fine. Good luck. -taytayou812-

So many bikes have so many different diameter down tubes and cross bars that you should be able to find a match relatively easy.
As was mentioned, match up the bearings to the forks then search for the tubes.
When I get doner bikes that are total rubbish I cut all the tubes off to keep as they may be of use use on other projects.
