Hi
I'm building an electric scooter. I'm building it for long range and with a 48V 33Ah system that should work out.. the batteries weigh 40kg though.. and the bike around 15kg... If i weigh 75kg and sit on the bike, then it weighs a total 130 kg... Now the hub motor is a phoenix cruiser 5303 and achieves a speed of 61km/h when I test it... does anyone have a realistic idea as to it's top speed with the full 130kg of weight on it... I chose the cruiser over the racer for it's hill climbing abilities... will they still be any good with that much weight on it?
Thanks!
Liam

Unless you are climbing a truly massive hill, you will reach the exact speed as posted in the Phoenix chart for your voltage level. I found these to be deadly accurate. Since those hubmotors are so powerful, the weight of your machine is not going to make a huge difference to anything but a slight bit of acceleration up to the full speed.

My Silent speedster would reach the exact same top speed under both of these conditions...

1) Just me going full out.... just under 50 Km/Hr
2) Pushing the LodeRunner-II with two people on it not pedaling.... just under 50 Km/Hr

Adding an "extra" 350 pounds made no difference at all!

Oh and I have another question... My speedometer is one of the ones that you clip to the spokes of the wheel... My question is:
Does the area on the spokes where you place the speedometer affect it's reading? I mean If I attached the signal thing to the wheel spokes near the center of the wheel then wouldn't that give me a much slower speed reading than if I attached it to the outer part of the spokes?
Thanks

Hi Liam,
Wheel size is the critical factor, these things are basicly tachometers that are translated into speed, at least with the velometers that I've used.
