I've seen one web sit with the DW that has a bolt thru the axel of the bike wheel between the spokes. can you use a bike wheel without changing out the hubs and respoking it. I have the plans for the Delta Wolf and also the tadpole which I'm currently building. about 1/2 done. can't wait. just received the front wheels today in the mail for the tadpole.

doing research on the DW. and was wondering about the rear wheels. I've got several 26" wheels both rear and front that I got from a kid in town. paid 40 bucks for 4 mountain bikes in varies stages of assembly. any thoughts on the rear wheels for the DW are appreciated.

thanks mark

If you can find a machine shop that can use a mill or lathe to increase the ID of the hardened steel bearing cones, you could use a bolt size up to the ID of the hub itself. The only drawback I could see would be the difficulty in properly tensioning the bearings.

thanks markHi, Mark....The reason for making custom rear hubs for the DW is to add strength to the wheel. Using a 'tall' wheel like a 26-incher without widening the hub could lead to wheel collapse in turns. There's quite a bit of lateral force on trikes and quads since the wheels don't lean as they do on a 2-wheeler. So, by increasing the distance between the flanges of the hubs, you strengthen the wheel.

I hope this helps.......Richie Rich >>
