View Full Version : Two chains reroute

I needed a jack shaft of a sort to reroute the chain line. I took an old French road

bike and hacked off the crank. I unbolted the outer ring keeping the smaller of the

two. I found another ring with the same bolt pattern on a Raleigh road bike and

drilling the bolt holes I put it on the French cranks. Came out like this.

After welding it on and running some chain it looked like this

I need a chain tensioner on the upper chain.

Ended up with this that I call "The Shadow"

Not sure yet on a roll but for now I'll use the neighbors car. I plan to put a cargo hold on the bottom tube for a cooler. That will do it. A kiddie step if you must!

The chain system is working well.

That is a pipe dream and to tell the truth when I was building this bike I would wake up at night with an idea and made sure I could remember it for the next day, for real. Thats how the forks progressed. Here's todays pic of the day.

The jack shaft works well with the old cotter system and I would think you might get another chain ring on the other side for another power source. Another set of pedals or a motor.
