I know I should have asked this question before I started building a delta.
What is the difference between riding a delta and a tadpole?

Tad's are better in the corners but harder to build. Delta's easier to build but corners are not as good. Now with the Deltawolf - I have not tried one yet -- maybe a contender in the cornering due to its low center of gravity! Really to not think it is a big factor unless your going really fast and turning a sharp corner - IMHO

Also -- Wish I had seen and rode a Delta configuration before I built my Tad -- just more my style. Putting my Tadpole up for sale as soon as I get a new Delta made this summer.

I have one of each. While the tad is sportier, shorter & more compact, & will turn a tighter radius than the delta, trust me, Brad's DW design handles like a dream. A truly revolutionary design among deltas, I believe it can take a corner at any speed the tad can!

You just need a little more room to park it! :D

The DeltaWolf is the best corner carver out of all the multi wheeled vehicles I have built so far. Speed around corners is only limited by your need fo adrenaline.

The only time I had the Wolf on two wheels is when I rode one rear wheel off the curb and then tried to make a fast correction. That was my fault for driving like a maniac!

...as soon as I get a new Delta made this summer.

Does that mean you already have one?

I made a start with the rear beam of the delta on the 21st, see "Aussie Build"

Hi

No - bad grammer. Only have one Tadpole and starting my Kyoto build. The Kyoto will not be the Delta I want to use as my main ride.

Hello,

I love what is happening here! I was hoping somebody had started a site like this!

I need some help in deciding which trike design to pursue- tadpole or delta. I am new to recumbent style of bikes/trikes. I have to commute 35km each way to work (70 km/day). Almost entirely country driving with few stop signs or traffic lights. I would like to find the most efficient and comfortable style of trike for this much daily riding. I would eventually like to add electric assist and possibly a fairing.

So- I like the looks of the Street Fox and the Delta Wolf. Have I narrowed down to the two most suitable designs? Which of the two satisfies the requirements best?

Thanks,
Bryan

PS I have been searching the site for this information but have not found it. If it is already answered please refer me to a thread.

Another question, which is easier on someone who isn't in the best of health but wants the excerise?

If you plan to go electric, go with the delta configuration. Delta is more stable at higher speeds and you can actually add a front hub motor. On a tadpole, the options to go electric are greatly reduced.

I am designing a new trike called the Lode Runner very soon, and it sound like it may be the perfect thing for you.

Welcome to the Krew, Dessman. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll love it. Nothing like a trike, as I always say.

Plus, with all the great guys & talented builders, you'll find all the help & advice you need, right here! :)

Walking -- get yourself a radio or music device, what ever you like to listen to, 45min a day and set a pace that gets your heart rate up but does not make you stress for breathing to much. When that becomes to easy then start getting on a bike -- same rule, set pace gets heart up but don't stress breathing. Heathly eating can't hurt either! We are lazy creatures and have to force good stress on ourslelfs and maintain consistency will be the hard part --IMHO

Good luck on getting better.

If you are like the rest of us, its only a question of which one to build FIRST. So, flip a coin and figure you will be building the next one soon.

Thanks for the replies!

So the Delta Wolf sounds like the best choice since I am very serious about electric assist in the future- and because it looks cool ;-)

Lode Runner? I was hoping to get started immediately but I could wait a little while if the Lode Runner will have significant advantages for my requirements. Can you tell me more about how it will be different from the Delta Wolf?

Thanks!

The Lode runner will be in two versions, a single rider and a tandem.

it will have a stronger frame, 20 inch wheels, a cargo bed, and a capacity to carry riders up to 400 pounds and cardo over 200 pounds. Suspension is placed in the seat to make things simple and smooth.

Both version will have optional suspended and removable battery cages to allow a front hubmotor to be used.

Under seat steering is also being made so a body can be used easily.

Yes please!

How long before you expect the Lode Runner plans to be complete?

I've been wanting to try suspension in the seat. Gil brought the subject up last year, mentioning the old big saddle seats with the springs. I have some old valve springs I kept when I changed a camshaft in one of my cars. Since the hauler has a front suspension fork, maybe I should try seat suspension on it as well.

Amazing. Here are my original concepts for a single KC I made last year:

Sleep? What the heck is that?

Key TheKid, that drawing looks a lot like the one I made when I was originally working out the Kyoto. Yes, it was only a single rider when I first drew it!

I guess you have books and books full of concepts as well? It's the simple designs that end up being the best ones usually.
