Probably Grandfather of all dumb questions. Would road bike crank set position chain more inside when on the large chain ring than on a MTB crank set when chain is on big ring? Am presently using MTB cranks on my SWB bent, with large ring moved to middle position. This puts the chain far enough away from my leg to prevent contact. Problem is it looks half-baked. For my purposes a two ring set up would work just fine as there are not many hills in Fl. Even a single would be ok . Bottom line just getting chain as far to the inside as possible.

I bought some pedal extenders on e bay that move my pedals an inch out from the crank arms. They work nice and only add a couple ounces to the set up, cost is about $25 usually.
Not many hills in Fl but you need to go fast to create a breeze!

can you go with a narrower bottom bracket? I had to change mine to get to the third ring.....
