So far, the court of public opinion is on her side, judging by comments in the media and forums. I'll bet it makes police uneasy that a civilian was able to do their job without injuring or killing anyone. I think that's the crux of the prosecution's argument, although no one will publicly admit to it. Imagine an ordinary citizen following and helping police nab criminals and no one got tasered or pepper sprayed! Methinks this event has given police a swift kick in the arse, and they don't like it.
These young thugs think they are above the law, and the problem is, it's true. Scumbags are everywhere; law enforcement is not.

Oh yeah! If I were sitting on that jury, no way would she get charged with ANYTHING. I've had enough of life just as it is to where I don't know I wouldn't purposefully wreck my own vehicles if it meant stopping it (and the thief) from hurting someone else. As to the thief's health... well, I can't attest much to that, either. ;)

She gets my vote any day, I'm sick of the law only protecting the crims and not the victims.
I was a consultant for a job where we used UV lights in the ceiling of a fish shop to kill bacteria.
The lights were timed to come on at 3 am every day for 1 hour.
They worked perfect and this particular shop never had that stale prawn shell smell most wet fish shops develop.
Unfortunately they had to be removed.
WHY? Just in case someone broke into the shop whilst the lights were on and damaged their eyesight.
If I had my way there would have been motion sensors linked up to machine guns to blow the bastards away. (well, you get my drift)
In my book if you choose to live outside the laws of society you have forfeited the right of any protection those laws would have given you.

Oy vay! You know the world is troubled when criminals can sue for damages/personal injury during or after committing a crime. What a joke.

So the stolen truck was speeding at up to 140 kph, and ran at least 3 red lights in a built-up area - would you consider that dangerous driving? I sure as hell would.
She managed to keep up with the stolen truck which is being driven dangerously, by driving in exactly the same manner. DANGEROUSLY.
She got lucky, and there were no innocent bystanders injured or killed, but if a kid came out of a driveway on a bike in front of her, the only thing she could have done was cry and say she was sorry. Once she had recognized the offenders, why didn't she stop?
Sorry, I recon they should throw the book at the thieves AND at her.

"they needed to catch the culprits in the act. "
Is this really the way the law works in Canada?
I wonder how many murderers (or any criminals) they catch with requirements like that...

Considering the fact that the authorities had taken no action when she was previously victimized, I don't blame her a bit. Bravo, I say!
She's just lucky she wasn't wrestled to the ground, & hauled off in chains!
