Ditto! While my current auto-darkening helmet is just the HFT special, it does have variable dark. I keep it around 10, because I find I can't see the weld pool well enough at 11 or higher. It lightens to about a 4.

My only complaint about it is the fact that it's "solar"- it uses the arc flash to turn itself on, so there's that fraction-of-a-second lag... enough time to get a momentary flash memory on your retinae, getting in the way every time you blink. I've considered wiring a battery to it, but so far am too lazy to actually do it. :D

My first hood was not a auto dark (black), I used to like the Speedglass (black and grey), but now that I have the Optrel (blue), I use nothing else. It is the best I have ever used. Very clear.

It gets alot of use by my wife right now, Im teaching her to weld, besides I gotta keep it ready as a backup, I weld for a living.
