Getting ready to start my Tomahawk was wondering about a 700 on the rear, happen to have a nice set layin around.....is larger faster? I was told that buy a roadbike guy I dusted on my Mach2 with a 26" rear he said I'd really fly if I had a larger rear....what do you think?
nows the time to make adjustments...

The only difference I noted when using a 700 as compared to the 26" was how easy the rim took damage over potholes. Speed seemed the same.

...he said I'd really fly if I had a larger rear....what do you think?Going to a larger diameter wheel is basically the same as going to
a higher gear... it's only faster if U have the power to push it.

The biggest thing you get with a 700c wheel and a 700x19 or 700x23 tire is lower rolling resistance. Narrow is fast, no way to disguise it. The effective gearing difference is easily compensated for with a couple of teeth on the chainrings. For bouncing over nasty roads, go 26" and put a fat MTB tire on it. For running fast over smooth paved trails or roads, 700c is more efficient.

I have the same idea. I have a nice 700c double wall rim . Unfortunately it only has 24 spokes.
Pete heal rode his VK2 around Australia on a 700cx 23 which I recall was also 24 spoke so I think it will be OK.
As to whether skinny tires are faster on a recumbent. That is something of a moot point and there is quite a bit of discussion on it. The online Kreuzetur calculator suggests that high pressure wide tyres have lower rolling resistence on a bent. (My spelling may be in error. I'll go hunt up the link and post it. I found it over on BROL.

Here is the link to the calculator.
I think the main reason for narrow tyres on roadies is that the lower mass allows for quicker accelleration.

I stuck a 700c on "Vorpal Blade"
Why?... because I had a good wheel laying there almost new.
I feel good with it so therefore it must be better:jester::jester:
All joking apart it does "feel" faster but I do remain in middle front gear for most of the time and can only climb on to the large chain ring on down grades.

I've got a nice pair with good tires too, but can't even ATTEMPT to use 'em, cuz I lost the QR skewers. :(

Oh well, not crazy about the tall stuff anyway.
