I just got in my 3/4" adapters from Elliot(Great Service by the way) and they come with a set screw and rectangular prism key. In the plans I noticed that Brad just welded his adapters to the axles. Should I do this and if I don't how would you go about cutting a key into an axle...
Any suggestions???
Thanks,
John booker

I cut mine with a dremel tool because I have one, but in the past I've used a cutting wheel on the grinder.

I guess it depends on if you ever want to remove the part from the axle.
Let's say you weld it, then something happens to your cassette.
You have a hard time getting it off or cross thread it going back on.
Then you have a mess.
If you keyway it or use the set screws. "Or Both which i would recommend."
Then you just loosen set screws tap it off and install a new one.
Just My Opinion

Just ordered 3 myself from Elliot today.
Tried to have them made locally but they want like 70 bucks each.

It sounds like you and I are trying to build with the same requirements.... I'm 6'5" - 375... wanting to build a Delta Wolf, but the more I look at the plans I think I want to modify them because of how low the seat is and getting in and out of the bike. I like what I see with the photos of the Load runner, thinking of doing a mod that's a mix between the two...
Keep posting and I'll start as soon as I get further...

Yeah we are building the same bike lol also 6ft7 355 to 375 Pounds.
I got evrything I need but the Tubing.
Unfortunately finding 1.5" tubing in 14 guage is a major hassle here.
But good news there found a small welding shop that can order it will be here weds or thurs.]
I too am modifying the plan a bit. making the read end 9 inches instead of the 7 inches brad says should raise my height a bit off the ground.
Also looking at raising the seat a few inches.
I will post some pictures when i start building.
I created my own yahoo group for recumbent builders in indiana.

Well I drilled some hub flanges using the 3 inch washers I got from grainger.
My template did not work out as planned looked like it was perfect.
But after punching centers holes and drilling.
I noticed one side was a tad closer to the edge than the other.
Think my printer is not correctly feeding the paper in.
Therefore its throwing a slight angle into the design. GRRRRRRRR......
Bought 10 of those washers.
Going to use these 4 and see what happens.
Cut my metal up for frame.
Was doing some practice welds on old bike frames getting ready to begin welding my frame.
When my mig Welder(which I borrowed from my freind)
Shut down and started smoking from the inside.
Unplugged it fast let it cool down. Opened the case and OMFG...
Big glob of molten metal and plastic.
He is slightly pissed off at me.
Told him it was not my fault it was welding perfect till it went poof.
Well my project is on hold for a few months I guess.
So now i have about 500 bucks worth of brand new bike parts, tires, brakes, chains,Steel tubing, axle rods, pillow block bearing, Hub adapters,And other parts Lying in my shed.
Anyone got a spare welder>>..... Just Kidding
Oh and got ripped off buying 3 items on ebay that have not shipped in 20 days GRRRRRR

Guess I should have just bought a recumbent trike on ebay or craigslist.
God my luck sucks..........

No way! You're building your own bike. That means if there's anything you don't like as you're building it, you can change it to your liking. As far as the welder is concerned, you may have exceeded the duty cycle, and the welder failed to shut itself off. Or maybe the welder was just defective. In any event, you should refresh your learning about duty cycles, so you can't get blamed for wrecking someone else's welder. (Just kidding. Actually, if it were my welder, I'd only blame myself for lending it out. Maybe that's why your buddy was only slightly pissed.) I don't deal with ebay for the exact reason you mentioned. It's too easy to get ripped off, or get stuck with people who ship when they get aroungd to it. Instead of buying a recumbent from craigslist, why not a welder?

I ain't buying a recumbent from anywhere NOW.....
I spent way too much buying parts to build it.
And welder will have to wait a bit.
I sold everything I had in storage(well anything that was worth selling)
on ebay.
Got 17 bucks left in paypal.
Can't work cause I had 1200 pounds dropped on my head 2 years ago.
So now I have 6 compressed disks in my neck and back.
No insurance and can not sue the company that did it cause they went bankrupt.
So until I find something else to sell Im stuck.
Looking into selling blood plasma can get 50 bucks per unit.
And can do it once a week.

Did exceed duty cycle on welder we think.
My bud mike told me someone before he bought it had bypassed the cutoff because it would not work at all.
He forgot to tell me before he loaned it to me. But is less mad now.
He just went home to get some sleep(took his burnt up welder and left)
Kinda looking like a puppy hanging his head low as he walked away.
It was a very nice lincoln welder. Not so much now though.
May take me a few months but Oh well.
Was really hoping to start riding in next week or so
BUT OH WELL Lifes a BEACH......

gb - Sorry to hear about all your troubles.

What brand of welder was it? Most decent MIGs shut themselves off if you exceed the duty cycle. That isn't true by the way with many stick welders for some reason.

Was a very nice welder Too bad he had not used it in a few years and forgot to tell me about the switch.
I feel so BAD....

He bypassed the cutoff. Well THAT certainly lets you off the hook. I only have 2 compressed discs, but I feel your pain.

Sorry for all the crap.
Adapters are perfect Elliot couldn't ask for much more at the price.
Thanks for throwing in an extra.
Didn't put me too far behind.
Hope you had a great time with your event.
Any one needs 3/4 adapters I highly recommend asking Elliot
that is if he has any left..
Got all my tubing cut to size and got my Hub flange's drilled.
Tommorow I'll be finishing off cutting the angles in the tubing.
Grinding my head tubes and bottom bracket clean.
And maybe if I feel good enough starting on my Wheel build.
I have an inspired idea on making my hubs so I can bolt them on.
Using an idea that I think richie did with black pipe.
But a different system of bolting them on.
Will post some pic's on my yahoo group.
Maybe tommorow evening If I ain't too tired..

Think I found another welder to "borrow".
Except this time I wont push it too hard...
