What is an approximate cost to build one of these?
Do you use a front wheel hub motor since there are no pedals or chain? What size wheel works best?
Do you have a good source for the hub motor kit?

With the price of gas going up I was thinking of building one and using it to commute.

A good hubmotor kit will cost around $500. Most hubmotors are actually front wheels. You can get a rear hubmotor if you want to add human power as well. A 20 inch wheel will eat hills and give you a speed of 25-30MPH depending on voltage. A 26 inch wheel will give you more speed but less climbing power.

Crystalyte makes a nice kit - a google search will bring up a lot of info.

Here is a site that has electric hub motors (both front and rear) in 16", 20", 26", and 700c. Price range, depending on what you want to buy is $190 to $510. They also hava batteries, throttles, chargers, and other stuff you might need or want.

Hi,
My name is Liam and I have a question regarding the Silent Speedster. I was wondering where exactly you got the Hub motor from. I would like to buy a good hub motor, but I live in Europe and most companies don't deliver hub motors to europe....

I'm planning on building a mix between the Silent Speedster and the LongRanger so I was wondering.... I'm planning on building the batteries into the Silent Speedster design, so I'd have them laid out in a line between the back and the front wheel. Do you think, that putting 4 such 30amp batteries in a line like that would be possible? I'm building the vehicle as a graded school project you see, so I'm also on a budget and I need to plan things out... thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yeah most importantly though, do you know what exact motor is used in the original silent speedster and where I could get it from... I've been searching the internet for a good hub motor in europe for weeks.... :(..
Thanks a lot!!!!
Liam
