The steering is finished for now, but I may have to shorten the gooseneck when I put longer, narrower bars on. In the meantime, I just have to weld on a few tabs for the platform and the headlight, then I could paint the frame and seat. I'll paint the steering parts later when I'm satisfied with the new bars. I could get away with the ones on there now, but it'll be more comfortable with longer bars. Thanks to Papa for posting the pics of Mark Stonich's trike. (And thanks to Mark Stonich.) That's where I got the idea for the direct steering. There's a bit more tiller effect than I thought there would be, but it's not enough to switch back to linkage steering. I had no pieces of straight round tubing, so I used the square tube to make the gooseneck.

Thanks. I was puzzled why the gooseneck was so long, because I cut a scrap piece to use for a template. As it turns out, I grabbed the wrong piece and used it for the template. Now I'll have to shorten it. No big deal, just a little more time. I also fiddled with the seat position, and if I move it forward just 2", I could use the same bars in a more upright position. In that more upright position, the tiller effect is drastically reduced. I may change the bars to a narrower type. My LWB has slightly longer and narrower bars for $8. I doubt that I'll change to a triple tree setup, as long as I feel comfortable riding with the way things are.

Yeah, I like the seat, too. The whole trike looks comfy. That baby's comin' along nice, Kid!

Good stuff!

Hey, I just put a big headlight on my LodeRunner almost the same place as yours. Found a classic egg shaped light at the dump and painted it up.

I was originally going to mount the head tube the same way, and leave a little extra on the front tube for mounting a fairing, but when you showed us the Loderunner and said you were using it to mount a light, I thought that was a better idea. Thanks!
