View Full Version : A slight change.....

I'm wondering about tilting the seat back a bit more, this would mean pushing the base of the seat forward, and then extending the boom....

Kind of like the optima

Can anyone think of any downsides?

(If it does not work out, I can always shorten the boom, and move the seat back)

So far I am about the stage shown in the picture on page 31.

Thanks Guys.

I suggest not using the seat the way that it is designed in the plans with the tube welded at an angle causing the seat to be at a fixed angle. Instead make one of the bent wood seats then attach seat stays that go from the to the back of the seat down to the chain stays of the Spirit. This will allow you to get much more flexibility in your seating angle.

A pic would probably be better so here ya go.
That is just .5" conduit slid inside of .75" conduit. This way we can make the just about any angle that we want. The bottom of the seat is just clamped in place similar to the way that the BB is attached to the forks. We were able to get much better knee clearance after sliding the seat forward and then leaning the seat back to avoid the handlebars from hitting us in the chest.

That looks pretty cool.
before I saw this, I welded on the seat post.
I will probably continue to the point where I have a bike, then before I paint it, I'll try to mod the seat like this one.

Do you have a link to any articles about making the seat?
