Has anyone else had problems with chain slap? Mine has chipped the boom up pretty good, so I'm gonna tube it.

Right now, I'm changing out the seat, finally returning this one to the tad from whence it came. Since I had to cut off the seat mount, do some grinding, & weld on a new mount, I had to repaint, especially since removing the BB took the paint with it, neccessitating repainting of the entire boom anyway.

Right now, she's curing her new paint in the sun. In a few days, I'll reassemble, & she'll be better than ever!

Deep purple - nice!
I have not had the chain slap problem on my DW, are you hitting the back trails a lot? Get some grip tape from a skateboard shop and cut an ovel out to protect your frame - just like they do on mountain bike stays.

...are you hitting the back trails a lot?
Nah, I never take my baby off of the pavement, except when riding it across the yard to get to, or from the road. I'm afraid of snagging my rear der.
Hey, maybe you should design us a ride specifically FOR off-road use. Something geared monstrously low, with 2 wheel drive, & a little higher drivetrain, even if it means a higher COG. Or is that already in the works?

the off- roader in me (extensive jeeping and mtn biking) would love a tricked out off-roading beast. but i want front wheel drive too..... :D
dunno though- mtn biking is alot of narrow, twisty trails. not really suited for anything wider than a standard mtn bike, and most of it at a fairly low speed.

Hey Joey- before you reinstall the BB, grind the insides of the mounts, and epoxy a couple of pieces of plastic cut from a milk carton, or windshield washer fluid, anything thin like that. It will help prevent scratching the boom when you install the BB and crank.
As for the chain slap, maybe your chain is a link or two too long?

No need to alter the BB now. With any luck, I won't have to move it again. I only had to this time, cuz the new seat sits a couple of inches farther back.
As for the chain, I'm sure it's the right length. It just that when I'm on the smallest chainring, it runs so darn close to the side of the boom, that any slight sway at all causes it to bang against it. I'll just tube it, no biggie. That way I know for sure it won't mess up my paint again. My tad uses chain tubes, & I can't even tell they're there.

Perhaps it's just the way yours is made that puts it closer.
But the tube sounds like a quick and easy fix.

My small ring was too close on the Streetfox. I took the BB apart, and reversed the BB axle. You'll notice that one side is longer than the other.

Yeah right side is longer .
So you stuck the axle in backwards.
I almost did that but I watched this video first.

On the Streetfox, I had it in the right way, but then I switched to a different chain setup, with the front chainring on the left side. I switched the cranks, but forgot to switch the axle.

With sealed BB's, it's not possible to thread in backward.... that's why I use them. Apparently, I'm not an innovative-enough idiot to out-idiot an idiot-proofing like that one. ;)

Even with a sealed bottom bracket it is still possible to put it in backwards.
Or at least the one I did on wifes Next bike was.
The drive side is longer than the nondrive side regardless.
But it is more difficult to goof up on if you read it.
It says L or R with arrows pointing both ways.
Well at least mine did.

I never noticed that. Of course, it never dawned on me to look for it. Next time I take a BB apart, I'm going to look for it.
