Sorry for the lack of photos during the TradeWinds Tandem build. The bike has come along so nicely that I will be painting it tonight!
I guess the first photo will be the final tandem.

Yes indeed, just cutting the chain in the next few minutes. I have already tested the tandem, and it feels good so far. Well, I have had my 5 minute break for the day, so I am back to my cave to finish the bike.

Okay, let's see if have this correct, M2, LodeRunner, Vigilante, & TradeWinds. That makes 4 ALREADY this year, right? (Unless I've missed one)
Kat absolutely HAS to be there in the garage, helping you. Do you have her locked in there, chained to the workbench or something?
So when can we expect #5 to be completed? Day after tomorrow?

Nope, he's so organized this year builds are going fast and smooth. Been waiting for so many months for weather to cooperate, he's been busier than a squirrel! I'm too busy with yard and house painting, haven't been able to do much in the garage, except make sure AZ eats and takes a break every few hours.

So far, I've been averaging one every couple of months, but it looks like I'm slowing down even more, now. To maintain that average, I'd need to finish the KC before the end of next month, & right now, as nice as that would be, I can't see it happening...

Now, that is what I like - a woman that paints the house, while a man works in the garage!
When my wife and I were a lot younger and had 3 small boys, we decided to re-roof our two story house ourselves. I had come home from a day at the office and my wife had been watching the kids all day. She was ready for a break from them, so when I gave her the choice between feeding and cleaning them up, or working on the roof, she chose the roof.
A little while later, a man from our church came by to deliver something to me. He saw my wife on the roof wielding a hammer and asked her where I was. She told him I was inside in the AC. He laughed and said he was going to ask me to give a talk to the other men at the church on how to get your wife to re-roof the house while you relaxed inside lol.

It looked like rain tonight so I held off painting the tandem. Here is the ready to prime TradeWinds...

I wanted to build a comfortable, light, high performance recumbent tandem, and I think the plan came together. Kat picked out a great new color so tomorrow we shall see how it looks.
Next up.... a Tour Easy style LWB without the killer tiller effect.

I like it!
Is that a BMX freewheel you're using for that rear idler sprocket?
Any chance of telling us how you mounted that, or is that an industrial secret, reserved for the plans?

The rear freehub is just a normal 6 speed. In fact, everything in the back half is normal - front and rear deraillieurs. The chain then crosses over on the stoker's side with a single 50 tooth ring and links to the front on another single 50 tooth ring. Idlers are my usual "return side" v-belt pulleys.
I will be adding much nice rims and a rear disc brake today just before it heads to the paint center (the back yard garden).

Do you think it would work to make the seats adjustable?
AtomicZombie
07-02-2008, 01:48 PM
Yes, I plan on showing a sliding seat adjustment option. I don't plan on sharing this one, so I built it for Kat and I.

I showed it to my wife. She loved it. She also told me not to bother putting in the back pedals......!!!
I may as well just build a pedi-cab and drive her around town...

No back pedals? No problem. Just tell her she'll have to ride in front. Then DUCK!

They were a perfect fit! I plan on making a new set of generic adjustable recumbent seats that I may use on many of the non lowracers.
