Hi all

Not sure if this thread should go here or in Health & Fitness or some other category??

I decided to ride my trike in this years "Ride to Conquer Cancer" & thought it would be great as a way to get fellow Zombies together for a ride. I ran the idea to use the AtomicZombie name for the team past Brad & Kat. They are in favour of it & will be providing the logo for team shirts.

The ride is over a weekend, August 17 & 18, 200 km, Brisbane - Somerset region & back again.
It's not a race - so it won't be too stressful & there are no restrictions on recumbents, trikes etc. If you are not up to the ride, there is still plenty of opportunities to participate as a crew member. They are going to need lots of cycle technicians for this event, & lets face it, we Zombies are cycle technicians.

It will be a great ride, a great way to meet & socialize with fellow builders both on the ride & at the training rides building up to the event plus you will be doing your bit to put an end to cancer.
Here is the link to the team page
http://cfrau.convio.net/site/TR/Events/Brisbane2013?pg=team&fr_id=1110&team_id=11054
& you can join up from here.

Ride participants need to raise $2500 before the ride. Still 5 months away but it's better to start early. Fellow team members help & support each other with their fundraising, so you won't be doing it on your own.

Cheers all

Hey Kurt

I am 80% in, I have my first child due at the end of June... So its up to the boss if I can get time away haha

I had better start training, luckily I live in quite a hilly area of the Gold Coast so the training will be intense. I have checked out the event website but it is a little light on actual details until you sign up.
Are you able to share some more information with us Kurt? Like is the $2500 for each rider or for the team?

I better start asking people for money haha

Regards Craig Hume

Yes Craig
That's $2500 each member. That's why we need to get in early & get cracking.
You can kick it off with a self donation, I started mine at $50. There's others on the website with more & lots with nada. Totally up to you
The crew members still need to register but don't need to raise the 2.5G$, but all all fund-raising & donations are appreciated.

Cheers

Craig
Have you registered for ride yet?
Bub should be 1 1/2 months old by time of ride. Friends/family could support "Boss" while you're away for weekend :)

Played around with designer package on Scody website for team shirt. They will contact me regarding minimum quantities, $, etc. Still 5 months away but it's better to start early. :cyclist:

:offtopic: Kat has moved this thread to "Health & Fitness"
OK - it probably should go there, but that forum is not well visited.
How we going to draw attention to this and recruit more riders for the team?
Wonder if Kat would put something in the newsletter?

Afternoon Kurt

No I haven't registered, I am a little worried about being able to get the funds together, and I wont be able to "top it up" with my own funds if I fall short just to participate in the ride. So I still have to think about it. I have been asking people at work if they would be interested in donating and it is a mixed bag.

I'm sure I'm not the only other Zombie interested in Australia, has anyone else piped up yet?

Regards Craig

Hi Craig

No one else has piped up yet. (Health & Fitness forum doesn't get much traffic) I've tried to make contact with a couple other Zombies around Brisbane via their threads. Some have PM blocked.
I kicked my fund account off with a $50 input but I'm not in a position to "top up" mine if fall short either. Ergo - don't fall short. I'm taking a banner image from RTCC website & attaching to email my signature, embed a link in it to my personal page. (keep reminding people). Sponsorship letter & send all. Facebook .
See how it goes.

Cheers

Hi all, Really keen to do this ride for charity. Its sort of been a goal that gets me building after work when I'm a bit tired. However i only looked briefly at Fezzas original post, and had no idea it involved so much money up front. That's not to say I can't raise it but I'd like some more information. I must say I wasn't even sure my timberwolf would be ready in time but its all gone much quicker than I thought and a couple more weekends should see it done.....So is it August? Do we have a team name? If I approach my firm for a donation, are we allowed to put advertising on the bikes?
cheers Clivey

Hi Clivey
That's great. The ride is August 17th & 18th. The team name is "AtomicZombies" (what else?) Link to team page is:- http://br13.conquercancer.org.au/site/TR/Events/Brisbane2013?px=1269335&pg=personal&fr_id=1110 .
Yes It costs $50 up front to register, but that covers your requirements for weekend, massage at end of ride, entertainment on Saturday night, tent hire & insurances. (Bring your own sleeping bag - but that even gets trucked to over night stop - you don't have to carry it)

Corporate sponsored teams run their own shirts with company logos & advertising etc. so I can't see any objection to a corporate ad on your trike.

They are advertising that registrations are closing soon. It'd be really great to have other members of the forum to ride with.

Cheers

OK. Looks like this year in the Ride to Conquer Cancer the "AtomicZombies" is a team of 1.
We will have a bigger team next year. http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/police/smileys-police-181247.gif :biker: http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smileys-and-emoticons/cowboy/smileys-cowboy-052901.gif http://www.myemoticons.com/emoticons/images/msn/our-favourite/red_indian.gif :builder2: http://www.myemoticons.com/images/patriotic-military/troops/soldier-1.gif

My training for the event is fine, 40km day during the week (20km commute) & longer rides on weekends.
Doing 100s at the moment. I need to be able to do 120s, (for the last 2 years the ride has been 240km) but it's still a month away.

By the way, Please make a donation. The ride is to raise much needed funds for breakthrough research in cancer detection & treatment, exemplary teaching, and better care for those already with cancer.

Donations can be made at this link http://br13.conquercancer.org.au/sit...nal&fr_id=1110 (http://br13.conquercancer.org.au/site/TR/Events/Brisbane2013?px=1269335&pg=personal&fr_id=1110)

Cheers all
