as i said my names mark ive built a couple of recumbents in the past but the first was high as a first attempt it worked and thats about all i can say about that the second was lower but my daughter crashed it and i realised there was a major problem with it so i took it apart so i have decided that i want to build a python trike with a tilt mechanism on the rear to help with the steering and also make it electric/pedal assist the problem i have is i am a below knee amputee on my left leg and my right knee is knackered so i am toying with the idea of making it a hand cycle i was wondering if anybody has done anything similair and would it be possible and also what would be the drawbacks of what i have planned if any im part way through making the frame at the moment as a python trike any advise would be gratefully received

PM me your email address I was at a BHPC race meeting last year and there was a combined hand/leg powered Python trike racing.

I have a few pictures of it that I can email to you.

I am also building a more conventional Python trike , about 1/2 way with it now :-

What do you mean by this :-

with a tilt mechanism on the rear to help with the steering

a while ago i saw a image of a python with a pivot at the back it did nothing bar when the front of the trike moved it changed the seating position to go around the bend it also meant the trike stayed reasonably central on uneven ground which i thought would be usefull

Are you talking about this trike at the bottom of the page ?

I am sure I read somewhere it had questionable handling ?

You could look at the Jettrike :-

This also looks interesting ?

not able to afford the parts for the jet trike and it has to be a handcycle as i dont know how much longer i shall have my tin leg for the reason i decided to put the rear swivel in is to help with handling i have seen a couple of trikes with this type of joint with varying ways of restricting movement i.e some sort of spring or rubber mount with varying success at the moment i am experimenting with what i am able to do but the way i am designing it is that if this part doesnt work i can unbolt it and replace it with a solid replacement i shall try and put some pics of it on when i find my camera as my computer refuses to upload pics from my phone

Have you though of joining this ?

This is basically a list frequented by most of the Python builders and there is a breath of knowledge about building and riding them far in advance of anyone you will find on this forum including the original designer Jürgen Mages
