Brad you said that 26" wheels don't have the strength of 20". Why is that it would seem to me that 26" would spread the weight out more. couldnt i use bigger spokes to get over that hump

It's rather simple. Bigger wheels have longer spokes. Longer spokes mean less strength generally. Bigger spoke diameter isn't the solution because they won't flex enough and will just break faster. Look up double butted spokes. They increase strength :-)

The problem with 26" wheels is they can no stand up to a side force as well as 20's. They might last a while but if you take a hard corner they will fold like a taco! If you used stronger spokes and made a wider hub I think they would work fine. If you want to go with unmodified 26" wheels take a look at downhill or stock trials wheels.

...or just resign yourself to the limitation of always taking it real easy on corners & curves, like I do on my factory-built tad.
It's a real nice machine, & my all-time favorite factory-built, but it comes up shockingly short in that department.
Alex, double-wall rims all around, but still, just standard-width hubs, with the rear being a 26", no less!
So, needless to say, on the rare occassion that I still ride it (rare, cuz I love my home-builts), I really baby the wheels.
My advice: build the wheels! After all, ripping around corners & sharp curves at high speed, like a looney-tick, is half the fun!
That's one reason I can be seen riding the home-brewed DW, more often than the $1500, factory-built tad! :D

thank you for clearing up the wheels idea I had. It all maks since the way you all explained it. I was just think the bigger the better.
I am reading up on how a bike with speeds works so while I read I write down ideas for bikes I now have 8 bikes that sound really cool to build and different ideas on how to do the steering.
I am also thinking ofideas for a trailor what are the limitations to tailors and benefits to. Could I make a trailor that would be big enough to carry around 300 lbs. would I be able to use with DW.
this coming fiday i will be ordering the book bikes, scooters, choppers and will hold of on the other plans i want for a later date.
thanks for answering my questions
