through-axle mount?

hello
i am thinking about buying the plans for the streetfighter quad,
but i am unsure if i can get the needed parts here.
when i look at your pictures, i see a "through-axle mount"
and i wonder if this will survive longer than ten minutes if you bump out in the dirt or hit a stone on street.
is it that stable if you mount it on a 5mm steel on one side? (sorry for this probably dumb question, but i never saw this before)
how do you mount it on that lill stick? i mean every normal hub has screws on both sides.
i am currently building a full-suspension offroad-kick-board (20") and the quad would be my next attempt :)
