Hi All,
I have started on the Warrior. It's going well a few screwup here and there. I have to rebuild the steering setup again now... But I'm lerning. My next plan is to use the Warrior plans to see if I can do a carbon fiber frame. I have layed fiber glass before and I am better at that than welding. I'll let you guys know how it goes. For now I gotta finish this one.

Hey all,

We're going to London (Porchester Rd. area) starting TOMORROW (September 3rd)
We'll be there for two weeks, and I'd like something to buzz around on.

Any quick advice on possibly finding a cheap/free bike to use for 2 weeks and then give to some kid or leave abandoned outside a bike shop? :P

I tried searching for 'bicycle collectives' in London and found one way west, one way east, nothing near Westminster. Alas.

Several bike shops exist around there within reasonable walking distance, but do you think they'd have some pile of scrap I could have for a few bob?

If I had thought of this a bit sooner, I would have scrapped a 12" kids bike into a pedal scooter 'thing' that I could disassemble and pack into my luggage.

A tandem would be preferred :rolleyes4:
I'll park it next to my unicorn.

I purchased a brand new set of front hubs and rims for my Warrior build back earlier in the year and never used them, Still in box. I went with completely built rims with spokes/hubs.
The following are the descriptions: FORMULA FRONT DISC MOUNT HUB 20MM DH 32H (2)
20" WhizWheel Rims (2)
I would like to get what I paid for them. I paid a little over 80.00 with shipping, for all of it. Give me that and I will be happy that they are no longer laying around for me to trip over. Give me zip code where they need to be sent and I will get an idea of what shipping will cost you.

Here is the deal i have the spine of a load runner mod i was building, i got extremely cold feet wen it came to wheel building time. I'm looking at that project again as a give to an older Friend. He fell off his two wheeled recumbent and his SHMBO said no more of that(this is the second time he has fallen off of it.) i would like to have it ready when he recovers from his broken coller bone, and even if he cannot ride it i can use it at that point anyway.

Lots of 20" wheels now have a 14mm axle.

Would these be suitable for single sided mounting without modification?

Loads of ideas in my head but thinking of using rear wheels at the front - weld up the single speed sprocket and use it to mount a disc?

Only problem I can see is getting a longer axle so I have something to mount onto the steering tube of a tadpole

I recently picked up a chopper/lowrider project bike, have been tinkering with it, and am curious to the strength of the fork.

It's a triple-tree style, 1.25" OD, 1/16" wall, 29" total length (tip to tip) fork, with a disc brake mount. The dropouts are 1/4".

Would this fork be stiff/durable enough to run a hydro brake on front? It has a mechanical disc brake already, but it's a cheapie, and im looking to upgrade, since i'm only running a front brake, and need something reliable.

I'm thinking it would be fine, but i appreciate helpful criticism.

Disclaimer: I'm a total newbee, feel free to point out the most obvious thing as I likely do not know it. If your first thought is "that is a horrible idea" tell me "that is a horrible idea, and here is why..."

I'm looking at building a bike or trike for touring with my husband. After talking to some EXTREMELY helpful people in my intro thread, I'm heading over to the specific plan sections to ask more specific questions.

One of the plans I was looking at, and has been recommended several times, has been the Viking. There is one reason that this isn't already at the top of my list and that is size... See, I live in a small apartment on the 19th floor. We have several doors and an elevator between us and the outside world.

I was hoping someone could answer these questions:

1) how wide/long is the Viking?
2) do the stock plans allow for removable wheels?
3) how hard would it be to put in a split behind the driver's seat?... for that matter, how would you put in a split? (as I said... newbee)
4) Now, maybe I'm blind... but where are the derailleurs for the stoker? I'm trying to follow the chain line between the rear wheel and the stoker's pedals and I don't see any place where they can shift gears. I see a front and rear derailleur for the driver, but it looks to my (extremely untrained) eyes like there is just the one chain straight back from the stroker's front chain ring. Am I totally missing something?

Thanks again for any advice you can give, everyone here is so helpful :)

Hello together,

As I can only work at weekends on my warrior, I spend my free time in the rest of the week thinking about my future projects.

As my two boys are over the moon with the warrior (since it can stand on its own wheels, I must push them about 100 times on Saturdays thru the workshop) I decided to build them their own warriors.

Here is the plan:

The Boys are 9 and 7 yo/135cm and 120cm/ 32kg and 26kg
- 30mm square tubing
- All tube-lengths times 0.75
- No changes to the geometry at all
- Single speed from some old 20” kids-Bike
- Normal bicycle-brakes at the rear
- No brakes in front
- 20” wheel at the rear
- 16” wheel at the front

Is it that “simple” or do I have a logical flaw somewhere??

I’m really looking forward to read your opinion on this.

I say sorry for my English being not that perfect.

Finally I stopped just planning and started my first diy-project. Actually I count it as welding practise, but the project is about to produce a HighRoller.

It has been a great therapy for me to build the bike and I have enjoyed it so much. Of course there has been quite a lot of trials, errors and fixes but I'm quite happy with the outcome so far :)
It has taken about two weeks to get here, a couple of hours per day. I hope my neighbours haven't got totally fed up with me and my grinder.

So here is the status today.

I'm trying to find the pulley for the power side of the chain and it seems to be quite a challenge (with low budget, I mean).
The bike feels very stable and solid and it rolls great even with those old semi-slick MTB-tires. I can hardly wait to get it out for a real test ride.

I'll post some pics later when I get some proceedings.

Cheers,
Enrique

Is there a reason that "normal" forks couldn`t be used?

I am thinking that the pivot point could be on the side of the fork...will this give a problem with steering ( at speed? )

Anyone?
If someone has a picture of a trike using could you point me to it?
