Hi everyone,

Been away from the forum for a while, but only because I've been busy. I hesitated before posting this here - I thought of putting it in "Discuss your projects here", but all the projects there seem to have wheels. This one doesn't.

Everyone needs a place to work, but sometime space is a problem. That's why I decided to buid myself a fold-up workbench. That way I can actually use my garage to park the car from time to time. After looking around the 'Net for ideas, I drew up my plans. The idea was to use whatever I already have in garage as a priority. This included a 140*65*4cm kitchen countertop and bits of wood of all shapes and sizes.

Once I got started, the plans kinda' went out the window. The devil is in the details, don't you know.

The most important thing about this project is that it is the first time I have ever welded two bits of metal together. I'm working with a basic arc welder, nothing fancy at all, and it has been a very good learning experience so far. Necessary, I feel, before throwing myself into a bike project. I've learned about heat distortion, in particular, and I am in admiration of some of the fine beads I see in photos on the forum. Let's just hope that practice does indeed make perfect. In view of my meagre welding skills, I've decided that my next project will be a bike repair stand.

Anyway, a picture says a thousand words, so here is the workbench so far:
http://picasaweb.google.fr/kowderoi/...2A-O_v_N_54gE#

I'll try to update with more photos as I progress.

Well yesterday after noon the Huffy bit the dust. After reading through my new Bible, the Bicycle Builder Bonanza, the Inverta Bike looked like a Cool project to build. Now I need to add some paint and I'm done.

Over 5 foot tall, riding it I can see over the fences to see in to the back yards.

I changed the drop outs to look normal, instead of the inverted look, Flipped the U Brake, to the other side, added a derailer to the take up the slack, and stuck it in one gear. I don't think you want 10 or more gears to go fast.

Maybe for the next project, the Tour de Hell.

I just bought these Avid BB5 brakes. The calipers are much better than the ones I got from electricscooterparts.com. The price is about the same I paid for the separate calipers and rotors.

For those who prefer hydraulics, here's a closeout:

http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Brake+Oe.aspx

If you want just the discs and screw on adapters, ebikekit.com offers them in 140, 160, and 180mm. Great for using on a freewheel adapter on trikes, or upgrading to disk brakes for front bike and delta forks. Just use a rear wheel up front, and buy or make an adapter for the caliper. If you want to get real creative, take two freewheel hubs apart, the reassemble one with then freewheel threads on both sides. This will give you the option of having disk brakes on the rear wheel of bikes or tadpoles.
Don and Deb do sooo much for their community and the Detroit area in general. This was just another way of them stepping up and helping people in need.

Just in case some of you don't know, one of the many things they do is sponsor the bicycle show part of Autoramas in Detroit and the now defunct Grand Rapids. Their shop is one of the best in Michigan and they have just about anything you can by for any type of bike, including customs!

I'm proud to have met and became good friends with two of the greatest people this hobby has to offer!

I have been exploring the project of building the WildKat.....have the plans and two donor bikes. Because both donor bikes are both 24 inch what would the draw back be of the wheels being equal instead of say a 24/20? Everything I have been reading /seeing has had a large read wheel and at the largest a 20 in front wheel. Do I need to keep looking for another donor?
Which trike would be easier / cheaper to build and how much more difficult would these be than the Voyageur?

I'm thinking of building a TriCruiser and I want to know what are the options for a hub motor. Normally I would think a hub motor would have to be installed on the front wheel, but in this case that wouldn't work. Then today I saw an electric bike with the motor sharing the rear hub with the chain. Anyone know where this type of motor can be found? Can I still have a way of shifting gears as with a derailleur? Any input is appreciated since I want to carry two small children (with bikeseat and trailer) and climb hills on a daily basis. Thanks in advance to the AZ Braintrust.

...Or, it could turn out to be a wet noodle in which case I will use larger tubes on the next one. Only time will tell.

In the Sir Joey style, I won't tell you what it is, but the measured drawing on my layout board will probably give it away. I have been thinking about this one for some time, and finally started cutting steel and cleaning up a head tube and rear triangle for it today. It's a dual tube 1" square 16ga frame, made to mimic a recently popular bike. The original is of course round tube, but I have several sticks of this 1" tubing laying around.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/smyrna5/4106294497/

I haven't decided yet whether to stick it all together with O/A, MIG, or Stick. I'll give you updates as the build proceeds.
