Re: The Crane - tandem tadpole -

    Hi,
The idea of building a stressed tube frame is not new, and many old airplanes were made that way, then covered with fabric.
    Very strong if designed well.
The method of joining the tubes is...
  2. Re: Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

A real test will be how it rides with two riders.
Just primer for now, won't finish paint until we find out.
  3. Re: Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

Even with summers added activity found some time to make headway on this project.
I would call it about 1/3 rd finished.
Have enough space to move rear axle back if needed for balance. Bolt holes...

    Re: Hello from Pennsylvania

Eek ! I've not hit a brick wall, but I have hit the pavement face first. I don't recommend it.

I do go for using recycled bikes and other parts to build projects. Keeps the cost really low. Also...

    Re: Frank's SWB build

When finished will this weigh less than the same bike built with mild steel or old bike parts ?
  7. Overkill Chopper Rear wheel problem and fix

After finally lacing and mounting up a rear wheel/tire for a future chopper project, I was a bit disappointed
when the tire went flat after a week or so.

After adding cans of "spare tire" flat...

    Re: little tip

I will sure try that .

Don't have the right pin pliers or freewheel disassembly tool. Have used a sharp punch and hammer to take the freewheels apart when i do. That was after removing them from...

    Re: little tip

I have used the same approach when removing some of the old two slot freewheels.
By placing a axle nut on to keep the removal tool in place, there is a good chance the freewheel will break loose....

Re: MIG welding with Co2 for framebuilding ?

I do not know how to put numbers to the settings. My old miller has a high and a low range to plug into, also a dial with 6 settings.
When planning to weld something thin or new I will make sure to...

Re: MIG welding with Co2 for framebuilding ?

Mig with Co2 is what I've used for mild steel for 40 years. Every thing from very thin steel broom handles to 1/2" thick truck trailer hitches.

For the thin bike frame metal I use the lots of...

Re: Hello from Normandy (France) !

So if you did about 100 km on that it proves your welds are strong enough to hold things together.

They can be cleaned up with a grinder, and smoothed out with a flap disk on the same grinder.

Re: Hello from Normandy (France) !

    Hi and welcome.

One of the good things about technology is hearing from folks around the globe.
Do not worry too much about your English. English can be a difficult language, with crazy...

    Re: mega haul

    :sunny::sunny::sunny:
Great lookin' haul. For sure worth the money.

Just think of buying just the two front wheels new.

I made the same kinda haul a week ago. Needed spokes for two 20" wheels....
  17. Re: Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

Found some time today to sketch out another plan. This time used 20" wheels all round.

Looked good enough to cut and bend tubes, gather up some parts, and take a pic.

    This was the easy part....

    Re: Tandemizer for delta trikes?

The hook the front fork on a rear mounted axle sound like the way to go. The only homemade part would be the axle mount,
a bit like making a trailer hitch.

I have not done it, but you can see...

    Re: DIY rear suspension trike

Is there an advantage to making your own? Special size?
Are your bearings spaced out wider ?

For $40 there should be a complete worn full suspension MTB with the shock still there somewhere....

    Re: reverse gear?

As long as the feet can reach the ground a "flintstone reverse" works fine.

Mostly only for short distances to turn around.
  21. Re: Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

Made the first full sized sketch on plywood. This plywood is recycled shipping spacers, at about 50 cents a sheet.

This sketch is using the suspension fork. If a solid 20" fork was used the front...

    Re: home made rear triangle.

Sorry for not knowing, but what is a "tip" ? Is that like what we call the dumps or transfer station ?

The dump is a big land fill, the transfer station is where we take stuff to throw into big...
  24. Re: Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

One benefit from a design as you go, test bed, experimental approach is that those things, like balance, pedal clearance, or seat placement can be tested, modified, or
    outright changed before paint...
  25. Short Wheelbase Tandem Recumbent Delta Trike Project.

After reviewing the drawings of many possible projects, I have taken ideas from several and ended up with
a design I've not seen yet.

The rear rider would sit between or behind the rear wheels,...
